Whatever Vanya was expecting from the hand holding wasn't that. As she landed in a foreign field of grass, she lurched up with wild eyes, backing away from the three men, who she now viewed as dangerous (more so than before).
"The hell was that?!" She attempted to run away but Five anticipated her escape, popping into existence a few feet in front of her.
"Sorry," he held up his palms in an attempt to calm her, "I'd forgotten that you'd forgotten about that."
"About what?"
"Teleportation." He smirked with pride and sat on the grass, "Our family is a bit special Vanya, you're special." He was quite careful in emphasizing that last word, finishing his speech with a slight wink.
"That doesn't make any sense." Vanya tried to stable herself by plopping down next to him. Her head felt stuffy now and the sun in her eyes wasn't aiding the pain.
"It would if you were smarter." He said that with a chuckle, as if it were an inside joke. She followed the turn of his head to see the other two approaching them, Diego with a slight jog.
"Don't do that again," he warned Vanya, "please." He waited for her to nod back before returning to a walk.
"Did I really make that window break?" She wondered quietly out loud, only to be met with silent nods from the group at large. "How can I control it?"
"Well-"
"Allow me." Five cut off Diego, who returned the favor with generous stink eye. "What? All you do is throw knives knife-boy. What training could you provide?" He redirected himself towards Vanya. "We're not quite sure of the extent of your abilities, but you do respond to sound. If we could figure out the variables of said response, then controlled frequencies could result in-"
"Borringgg," Klaus strutted in front of Five, biding him to the side with his hip, "listen Vanya, you just have to concentrate hard on what you're doing. I mean, I only started training again like, a day ago, and now conjuring's a bit of a breeze!"
"Conjuring what?"
"Dead people" he popped the "p" and reached out his hands, "ready to meet Ben-Ben?" He thrust his hands out, messily painted nails in the sun, before grunting loudly. His hands began to glow a dark blue, becoming brighter and brighter until an image appeared in the grass in front of him, one of a slightly smaller man in a dark hoodie. Vanya stared at him, awed by his transparent motions as he examined himself.
Diego was the first to recover. "Hey, man." He awkwardly strolled to the ghost before stopping about a foot away. "How've you been?"
"I'm dead Diego."
"Righttttt," he scratched the back of his head in discomfort, "Klaus been treating you well?"
"I didn't know how much of an idiot he was before this. I've been stuck with him for what-thirteen damn years?!"
"That's rough buddy."
Five rejoined the conversation. "Thanks for saving our asses earlier by the way. Even if we didn't know you were around."
"I didddd."
"You don't count stupid."
"I never do, do I?"
Ben interrupted them, striding past the others (and accidentally passing his arm through Diego's torso, causing the latter to yelp) before joining Vanya on the grass.
"Do you remember me?" He looked at her with muted sadness, almost willing her to do so. When she shook her head, the space between his brows crinkled as he stared into the distance. "I'm your other brother."
"How many of you guys are there?" Seriously, they were up to what, six now?
"Don't worry, I'm the last," he chuckled, reaching out to hold her hand before deciding to withdraw the attempt. "Look, I know what it's like to be unable to control your ability, so do they. You will be okay or I'll have Klaus let me haunt all of them."
"Was I ever not okay?"
He sighed at that, "There was a time when none of us were."
Klaus rapped his neon blue wrist, signaling Ben to head over, "Sorry, but time's up dipshit."
"Great, can't wait for only you to hear me again."
Klaus stuck out his tongue, "You know you love it."
Ben faded away with a quick peace sign at the group.
"How did he die?" Vanya stared at the spot her brother disappeared on.
"Horribly." Five wore a disturbed smirk, "Let's get started."
Vanya expected a punching bag, a fight, anything combat related. Instead, she stood ten feet away from a rock as Klaus clapped continually harder.
"Listen to the noise!" He cheered, "Now it's louder, and louder, and louder..."
The only one more annoyed than her was Five, who whispered to Diego quietly. "Can I borrow a knife?" The latter snorted, hand slowly moving towards his utility belt.
"It's okay guys, he's trying to help." Vanya zoned in on the clapping, the sheer echo of Klaus' palms as they smacked each other. As she listened, the world seemed to melt away. She was ready.
Thrusting her torso forward, she willed a wave of energy, shooting out like a laser, towards the rock where it sliced the stone cleanly in half. She stood in shock, taking in the complete symmetry of the cut before returning her gaze to her brothers: (though it had been an hour, she'd grown a bit fond of them) Five who smiled smugly, Diego with a perplexed expression, and Klaus, who jumped repeatedly and cheered.
"Thanks." She took a little bow before joining the others a few feet away. "Can I ask something?"
"Shoot."
"Klaus said he'd had training before. All of you guys seem to have too. Why am I just learning now, especially if we're siblings?" Her earnest plea was too much for them, as all three reacted quite poorly.
"We didn't know about them..."
"That's not true," Five and Diego spoke in unison before glancing at one another. Five seemed to win before continuing, "our father made the smart decision to lie to and drug the most powerful of us," he gestured forward with respect.
Klaus snorted, "Yeah, daddy dearest always had the best ideas, he practically invented parental neglect!"
"Did he love us?" Vanya felt concerned by their attitude towards of the idea of their father, "Did he just hate me?"
"It was all of us. Don't worry, he's gone now."
"Still, I just wish I knew why..."
"You will," Five was the most insistent when it came to her amnesia, "you will remember."
"And if I don't?"
"That's not going to happen."
