Closing the holy Qur'an and planting a kiss on it—in order to express her honor and respect—Mehrul placed it in its right place. This had been her usual routine from the past five years, praying tahajjud and making du'a till fajr.
The long invocations she dwells into with utmost hope and sincerity were particularly for Murtaza. Her pleas to the Almighty were categorically made to guide and bring him back on the right path.
In all these years, her relationship with Murtaza just seemed falling apart, the distance developed between them felt extremely unsettling to Mehrul. He was so close yet so far away.
Mehrul believed that Allah was testing her and everything that was happening was by the Qadr of Allah. She's being tested by her Lord and it's a confirmation that Allah loves her. The more Allah loves somebody the more he tests them.
Hence, Mehrul resolved to stay firm on her faith as she strongly believed that these tests in the Duniya(world) will save her from the punishments of Akhirah(hereafter) which will be much worse than any test faced in this world.
The Prophet (saw) said:“The people who face the most difficult tests are the prophets, then the righteous, then those following them in degree. A person is tried according to his religion. So if there is firmness in his religion, then the trial is increased, and if there is a weakness, then it is lightened. Verily a trial remains with a servant until he walks the earth having no sin left upon him.” [Bukhari].
Reciting Ayatul kursi, Mehrul neared Murtaza and blew it across his face with a firm belief in her heart that Allah will protect her husband throughout the day.
As Mehrul trained her eyes across the room, she noticed the sun had risen bringing yet another brand new day in her life. Pulling back the thick fabric curtains which were suppressing the light to enter the room and sliding open the blue reflective window panes, Mehrul inhaled the fresh air which leavened her whole body.
It was a cloudy autumn morning, the sky covered with brilliant white clouds as the patches on the blue sky and the sort of orange hues that are soft and bright at the same time and spread across the souls on the land. Mehrul's mouth twitched at the sight and SubhanAllah rolled out of her lips naturally.
Suddenly, her smile slipped, acknowledging the time. Mehrul hastily tied her luscious brown hair in a high messy bun and swiftly rushed to the closet to set up his suit and accessories for the day and quickly sprinted out of the room to reach her daughter. Mehrul hoped she would not be awake.
