CHAPTER 14: UNEXPLAINABLE PHOBIA

CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Unexplainable Phobia

About ten minutes. Lan Wangji's friend or a cousin rather, who is working at the Veterinary Clinic came. When she stepped out from the car, Wei Wuxian is impressed on how Lan bloodline can produce an exquisite beauties. She's wearing simple tees, donned it with brown jacket, overwashed jeans and boots that matches her outfit. She was shy at first when she approached the two men, after their formal introductions. Wei Wuxian learned that her name is Lan Luo Ze, she's one year younger than Lan Wangji. Lan Wangi calmly explained to her on what happened to the dog, she looked at it with pity in her eyes and slowly approached it.

The dog is aware of what's happening to him, he let out a low growl to warn her to stop approaching his side. But Luo Ze ignored this, after reaching to the dog side. She slowly caressed the dog's head. Lan Wangi and Wei Wuxian saw how she caressed the dog's fur softly. They were both guilty yet engrossed of the scene in front of them. When Luo Ze is sure that the dog is not wary of her presence anymore. She carefully lifted his body, avoiding the injured leg and carried the dog towards her car; Lan Wangji is assisting on her side. Then she asked him to open the backseat of the car and carefully placed the injured there. After closing the door, she turned to face them.

"He's fine now, I assure you.." She smiled at the both of them.

"Thank you." Lan Wangji said in a cold tone. Luo Ze nodded at him as an acknowledgement.

"You're welcome, tell Uncle I said 'Hi'.." she said to her cousin and her eyes draws to Wei Wuxian.

"Let's talk some other time.."

Wei Wuxian smiled at her, "Sure, Thank you so much for your help."

"Ah, I'm so tired." Wei Wuxian said out loud as he sat comfortably on the passenger's seat. He stretched his both legs then he changes his sitting postion into indian style.

Lan Wangji who is driving the car, pursed his lips in displeasure as he saw Wei Wuxian sitting position. "Wei Ying, sit properly."

Wei Wuxian who has his eyes shut, his back leaning on the leather seat back; feeling so comfortable, choose to reason out on Lan Wangji.

"Aw, Lan Zhan don't be like that, my body really hurts right now. I feel my energy has been sucked out because of the events that took place today.." he said while he dramatically covered his eyes with his other hand then he looked at the sight by the window, they passed by through the busy streets as they drove towards his home.

Lan Wangji took a quick look on the right and he saw the truthfulness of Wei Wuxian's words. Exhaustion is evident on Wei Wuxian's pale face, His eyes were now half-closed... almost close to fell asleep. The strings inside his chest were now in chaotic mess as he looked at his red sensual lips.

"Lan Zhan, Thank you so much for  everything." Wei Wuxian suddenly break the silence, Lan Wangji's eyes snapped again to the road.

"If that happened to me without you by my side.." Wei Wuxian referred to the incident happened on the Alley. "I might die in heart attack." He jokingly said.

"Mn" Lan Wangji replied.

Lan Wangji knew that what he say is true. If it really happened to him and coincidentally he was not there. Wei Wuxian might really faint right on the spot. He remembered how screamed his name earlier and his tear-streaked face while looking for his help, His urge to protect him whether it's a dog or a person or any circumstances is getting stronger. He wanted to hide him away from all the things that might cause Wei Wuxian's pain. He doesn't want to see him hurt or crying, Lan Wangji unconsciously tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

Wei Wuxian is overwhelmed by the silent atmosphere inside the car, it made him a little uncomfortable, "Hey Lan Zhan, are you not gonna ask me why I have a Cynophobia?"

Lan Wangji clenched his jaw. He doesn't want to talk about it. "No." He replied in clipped tone.

Wei Wuxian rolled his eyes at him, then he leaned closer to the window beside him and observed the starry lights by the window against the darkness, it's almost eight in the evening.

"Well.." Wei Wuxian trailed off. "Actually, I really don't have a clear reason why I am afraid of dogs. Whether it's big or small, cute and harmless as long that it's a dog, I will always tremble in fear at the sight of it."

He waited Lan Wangji to respond but the person beside him didn't make any noise, so he decided to continue his story, "I remember when I was around twelve years old, it was raining hard at the time when suddenly my brother arrived at our house and he brought a stray puppy with him... Even though it was wrapped with white towel and it looks so tiny..."

Lan Wangji tried to remain calm and focused on driving while Wei Wuxian was immersed in his story.

"My reaction was not good. My body was shaking, my hands went cold... I felt numb all over and I screamed my Shijie's name until I fainted because I was so afraid. We had a silent argument with A'Cheng; he didn't speak to me for almost two weeks. It's understandable though, since he loves dogs and he really wanted to keep one but his parents refused... for my sake.."

"It won't happen again." Lan Wangji said suddenly. His voice is cold but he said it with finality, he vowed to himself that he will do everything in his power to protect Wei Wuxian on this second life.

Wei Wuxian gaped as he stared at Lan Wangji he was taken aback of his reaction. Wei Wuxian calmed himself then replied,

"Lan Zhan, there's no need to feel overworked about my life-story. It's nothing. Really..." He said jokingly.

Lan Wangji frowned on Wei Wuxian then he said firmly again, "I won't let it happen again."

The funny thing is, Wei Wuxian felt his neck, ears and cheeks getting hotter by Lan Wangji's words. If she's a woman, he might really crawled over to Lan Wangji's side and kissed him until both of them became breathless but then, he's not a woman. He's a man.

Wei Wuxian laughed awkwardly, "HAHAHA, Lan Zhan if I am a woman, I could easily give you my heart."

After hearing this, Lan Wangji's face become void of any emotion. Wei Wuxian saw Lan Wangji's dead reaction then he realized that Lan Wangji is always serious in everything he do and what he says.

Wei Wuxian looked away from the person, "I get it Lan Zhan, I trust you..." He felt his heart beating so loudly inside his chest. "I am not afraid because I got you..." he said, almost in whisper.

Lan Wangji felt satisfied hearing Wei Wuxian's words and about the giving Wei Wuxian's heart to him. H will definitely win him over in this second lifetime. They are always meant to be.

After an hour of driving, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji arrived at the Jiang Sibling's apartment. Wei Wuxian is quick to open the door of the car and went to the front door, in his hand is the box of Cake he bought earlier, Lan Wangji followed his suit. Wei Wuxian smiled at him before he pressed the door bell, he heard the chiming sound coming inside the house. Both of them heard the rustling inside the house and a couple of steps until it reached behind the door, the door knob turned until the door was pushed to open with a 'creak' sound.

They met Jiang Cheng scowling face, he's already wearing sweatpants and white tees, his hair is slightly ruffled.

"Wei Wuxian..." he said in pissed tone.

Wei Wuxian fell on the small figure behind A'Cheng. She's peeking at the two men in front of her house.

"A'Xian!" YanLi said.

Wei Wuxian turned to Lan Wangji and said while smiling brightly at him, "These are my siblings..."
