Jack's P.O.V

They stayed in a routine for the next few days. Hiccup and Rapunzel taking turns on painting and drawing, Merida watching and eating from the sidelines. They talked quite contentedly about their lives, but they were still fairly withdrawn. They would build a fire in the afternoon, using the ashes to shade the masterpieces, and just chill.

During their talks, I listened in. From Merida, I learnt that she's fourth in line to the throne despite being the oldest, but she was perfectly happy with this arrangement as she wasn't worried about ruling, she only cared about riding Angus, her horse, and shooting arrows. However, as a princess, her mother expected her to be sophisticated and practiced at home skills. This led to many arguments between them.

Rapunzel revealed her lifestyle. She was the princess of Corona, not that anyone would know because she never left the castle. She explained it was because of an incident as a child, where someone had tried to kidnap her for her hair. She doesn't mind that much, but she would like to travel someday, and ever since her sister left to marry, it had only gotten lonelier.

Hiccup revealed that he was the only son of Stoick the Vast, and had a lot to live up to, a task at which he was failing. He worked at the blacksmith's, his boss was Gobber who could occasionally help him out with his father but not all the time. Although recently, he'd been picked to train against dragons, much to his despair and everyone else's astonishment. However, he never once mentioned he had a dragon of his own, even though no one would have judged him for it here.

Come night-time, I decided that it was time to let the others know his not-so-terrible secret. I did a little bit of art myself. Not with berry juice or charcoal, but with frost, of course! A dragon here, some fire there, just in time for the morning.

——-===——-

Hiccup woke up first, despite having stayed up later than the others. He shook his hair from his eyes which had black circles under them. Sadistic as I was, I watched with eagerness as shock crossed his features. He stood up and ran to the wall, yanking his hand back when he touched the cold ice. Eventually he tried melting the ice but to no avail.

I laughed and Hiccup turned around, his eyes widening more than I thought possible.

"Loki!"

I stopped laughing.

"What?!" I spluttered.

"I get it now!" His forehead knotted with frown lines, "You're here to punish me in the most wicked and amusing way possible. Fine, carry on. But at least tell me what I did wrong. Was it Toothless? Was it lying to the whole of Berk?!"

"Look, chill! I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not oaky or whoever you think I am. I'm Jack Frost! Pleased to meet ya, Hiccup! It's been a while since anyone spoke to me directly."

I flew down to shake his hand, trying to smile genuinely. His mouth was open lopsidedly, eyes narrowed. He straightened up and turned away from me.

"This is it. Confinement's finally got to me! I'm going to die in this hole and even my imagination thinks the gods are mocking me. Well, I was a fool to think I'd actually die in battle!"

"I'm right here you know!" I shouted angrily, only for him to ignore me further.

Rapunzel's P.O.V

I woke up to shouting. Looking down from where I hung in my hair hammock I could only see hiccup. I could hear only him as well. odd!

"Hiccup, are you alright?" I asked.

"Huh. Uh... Yeah, I'm fine. Just giving myself a pep talk." Liar!

I swung down and faced him, "I'm going to die in this hole doesn't seem like a pep talk to... Why is there a dragon on the wall?! Is that ice?!" She was flabbergasted. Utterly speechless.

"I guess I've got some explaining to do." Hiccup replied hesitantly.

"I'll wake Merida up."

——-===——-

"...So you see I'm being punished by the gods because I've become great friends with Toothless, and everything here is just a figment of my imagination. Even you two!"

"So Hiccup," Merida said tentatively while still maintaining a cynical air of doubt, "What did this Loki look like?"

"Merida don't encourage him!"

"Look. I know you don't believe me, but you have to! No one knows about toothless, I can't make ice and it's the only thing that makes sense. I can prove it. You can't hurt yourself in your imagination!"

He ran to the table in the middle and grabbed a glass bottle of water. He smashed it and put a shard to his skin, just below his elbow on the under side side of his arm. I watched as he punctured a hole in his skin and a bead of blood formed and dripped off. "Oh! I'm bleeding." He said, looking at his cut with distant eyes. "This is all real."
