The next day

Melanie's POV

I walked out of my car in front of the local police station where Kayla was waiting outside sitting on a bench with a woman dressed in all black,
"Who is this?"
I though to myself as I cracked a smile at the two.
"Hey Mel, this is Jane."
Kayla introduced as Jane waved at me and I waved back.
I started to cringe in frustration, why did Kayla bring a random girl into this?
"What the hell is going on?"
I asked in annoyance, I didn't mean to sound rude but I didn't want to be interrogated.
"I'm the girl who saw Jeff at the party.. I'm just here to prove to you that this was the guy I saw.."
Jane explained, pulling out what seemed to be a yearbook, my eyebrows narrowed.
"Why did Kayla do this?"
I looked at Kayla,
"Just please listen, this is important."
She responded to my irritated gaze, I sighed and looked over the table.
"This is my sketch from that night and other sketches by people who saw him out in public.."
Jane pulled out around 6 papers with similar sketches on them,  they all depicted a man with black hair and a cut smile...
My heart began to race, I hoped that it was a misunderstanding among a group of people.
Jeff would never kill an innocent person.

I stared at them perplexed.
"Does this person look familiar?"
Kayla asked in concern, I glanced back at her as I began to tremble.
"People can remember faces wrong.. maybe there's another guy that looks like him."
I shrugged and babbled, in the back of my mind, I was aware that I sounded ridiculous.
"Have you seen a high school photo of him Melanie?"
Jane asked flipping through pages of an older yearbook..
"Yeah, but what does that have to do with-"
Before I could finish, Jane showed me a younger Jeff beside photos of other students, I'm guessing she went to school with him.
My heart seemed to drop right into my stomach as I saw his picture,
Young boy, black hair, clear face, just like he was before the incident.
Right below was the name, "Jeffrey Hodek".
"Who's Jeffrey Woods then?"
I asked myself as I glared at his picture and a million memories flashed through my mind.
"The name Jeffrey Woods haven't been in any police records. The only Jeffrey and Liu Woods that existed in New Jersey was years ago, before their parents got divorced."
Jane described which surprised me that she knew so much.
I remembered him telling me about his parents... I began to feel dizzy.
"H-Hodek is a maiden name.."
I muttered feeling my stomach turn sour.
"Woods is a cover up.."
Kayla muttered back as if she just cracked a code.
My head clouded up with memories and things he said to me,
He said he loved me... He can't be a fucking serial killer.. I felt safe around him..
I felt tears burn my eyes, was he hiding this much from me?

I gulped and turned out to get back into my car, Kayla jumped up and followed me.
"Hey Mel... where are you going?"
She asked in concern, I could tell that she did this because she truly cares.
"To Jeff's.."
I choked up,
"Let me come with you.. I'll stay in the car until I suspect something. For your own safety."
She explained as I opened the door, I turned to her and smiled.
"Thank you.."
I replied as she got into the seat beside me and I drove to his house.

We parked in front of his small house and saw that both Jeff and Liu were there, I sighed in relief.
My heart started to pound again as Kayla grabbed my hand for security.
"You got this Mel... stay safe.."
She consoled me as I smiled back I got out of the car.
I stood and looked at the door before my legs seemed to take off.
I knocked on the door as my adrenaline rushed through my veins as Jeff opened the door with that charming grin he always has.
"Hey sweetheart, you didn't tell me-"
Before he finished his sentence, I spoke,
"Are you Jeffrey Hodek?"
I asked nervously, his eyes widened as if he was shocked.
"What are you talking about?"
He asked defensively.
I walked in behind him,
"I talked to the girl who saw you at the party.."
I confessed as I tried to hide my fear.
"What the hell? I thought you fucking believed me?"
He snapped back, his voice becoming growly.
"I...I did.. but, she showed me things."
I started to recoil.
"What could she have shown you?"
He asked, getting closer to me.
"I saw sketches, and a photo of you in high school.. the police reports said that Jeffrey Woods doesn't exist... that was your last name before your parents were divorced.. There isn't any record of a Woods that relates to you."
I explained as tears ran down my cheeks and the room grew silent.
I finally got the courage to back at his face,
"If you are going to tell me to never lie to you, it's only fair that it goes both ways...
Did you kill those people?"
I asked again, trembling violently wishing for it not to be true.
There was a long pause until,
"Yes. I did.. Ya figured it out."
He confessed as if he didn't want me to know, I got that sick feeling again.
The room seemed to spin around me, a chill ran across my body, I felt betrayed...
"I'm sorry Melanie..."
He muttered but I couldn't respond.
"I have to go.."
I turned around and headed for the door as he kept calling for me, I suddenly felt his hand constrict around my wrist causing pain and just made more tears fall.
"You told me, you were never leaving me.."
He growled in my ear as he tugged on my arm, I whimpered,
"J-Jeff... you're hurting me.."
I stuttered as I struggled to get free,
"He's going to kill me.."
I thought as I was tempted to shout for help.
"You're going to abandon me like everyone else.."
He growled back, I trembled coming to the realization this wasn't the man I was falling for.
"Let go of me Jeffrey."
I demanded in a stern voice as he loosened his grip on me and backed away.
I stormed out of the house and ran back to my car.
