Two weeks later

Melanie's POV.

I sat quietly in my lounge chair on the balcony of my apartment as the sun started to set.
I sketched various things as I waited for Jeff to arrive.
I sighed softly as I got a cold chill down my spine as I recalled a memory.
Kayla and I haven't been talking a bunch since that night she brought up the Jeffrey Hodek situation.
I'm starting to feel shitty for dismissing her, but I just couldn't understand why she was so suspicious of him.
I'll text her today after Jeff leaves.
I felt my phone softly vibrate in my pocket, I pulled it out and saw a message from him that said he was here.
I put my sketchbook down and went to open the door as my cheeks felt warm.

"Hey beautiful, I know it took a while. I got ya some Starbursts."
He smiled softly under his hoodie that covered a lot of his face.
I smiled back as I grabbed the candy out of his hand.
God he has such a beautiful smile.
I thought to myself as I looked in his eyes for a second.
"Well aren't you a gentleman?"
I giggled flirtatiously, knowing that he doubted being a romantic.
He shrugged,
"I try. So, did you need to chat about something?"
He asked with flushed cheeks as he went ahead and sat on my leather love seat.
My legs began to shake as I remembered the question I needed to ask,
"What if he thinks I'm accusing him of something?"
I thought as he pulled his hood off and his dark hair falling in his burned face.
"You're so nervous... why is that? You can tell me."
He responded to my nervousness, somehow the way he spoke always made me feel at ease.
I breathed deeply getting ready to ask,
"It's nothing serious, I just wanna ask you about something.
Do you know about the Jeffrey Hodek case going around?"
I questioned, the room suddenly seemed to grow quieter as he looked up at me with a piercing gaze that made my blood run cold until he spoke,
"No, why?"
He asked, I could sense some kind of defense in his voice which made my legs tremble more.
"I just wanted to know... he was some serial killer from a few years ago and people thought he was dead and apparently he's not."
I explained, looking away from him.
"Oh... how'd they track him?"
He asked curiously, taking a sip of Pepsi.
"He was at the party we were at. At least that's what some girl said..."
I answered, my voice came out shaky.
"Oh.. At least he didn't hurt us.."
He replied seemingly disregarding it.
I felt a pit in my stomach by the way he was acting. I didn't expect much but I guess I did expect more of a reaction.

I nodded in agreement, he slowly walked towards me and my body spontaneously jolted.
"You don't need to be scared, okay?"
He placed his rough hand on my cheek and whispered.
I sighed as my body began to relax and looked up at him.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, neither is this dude."
He kissed my cheek, how could he be so sure?
How he was suddenly acting made me feel safe but for some reason, it also sent a tugging sense of discomfort.
I just nodded, not wanting conflict.
"Are ya paranoid because this dude happens to have the same first name as me?"
He chuckled softly, I began to feel stupid. Jeffrey is a common name after all!
I giggled back and shrugged.
"I wouldn't kill anyone..."
He responded with a small smile.

A few hours passed of us talking and hanging out, that discomfort began to fade away thank fucking God.
After Jeff left, I got a text from Kayla saying
"Meet me at the police station tomorrow, I need to show you something."
I felt my body start to tremble again as I stared at my phone.
