3. Suspicions

Two days later

Kayla's POV.

I was sitting on my couch watching T.V like usual after Melanie left.
I could tell that she was falling hard for Jeff but for some reason I don't have a good feeling about it.
It isn't anything he directly did, something about him just seems off.
The way him and Liu distance themselves greatly, they seem like they don't want us to know something.
I guess some people are slow to opening up but I still can't shake the nagging feeling.
I got bored of the show that I was watching and flipped the channel to the news.
Nothing about the news interested me but the headline made my heart drop.
"A survivor of the Hodek stabbings claims to have seen Jeffrey Hodek at a New Years party in Trenton New Jersey, she states that she knows Mr.Hodek is not dead despite what the police in the investigation stated. After the survivor reported her finding to police, they interviewed the host of the celebration.
Here is his response,"

"Jeffrey Hodek"? That name made my blood run cold, I thought he was in Michigan, not New Jersey.
That name hasn't been spread around for years because police thought he was dead.
I heard the husky voice start to speak as a blank image appeared.
"I did not sign anyone with that name in the party. I signed in a man named Jeffrey with his brother Liu, but their last names was Woods."
I started to think back at the party, my body started to tremble as memories flooded in.
"Do you remember what these brother's looked like?"
A second voice asked.
"Jeff had dark hair, skin a bit pale and scarred, he had a hood on. His brother was a little shorter, brown hair, kinda dressed fancy."
The host responded.
"The survivor states that is the same description of the Hodek brothers, do you know anything about this case?"
The investigator interrogated, I felt sick.
"Not hardly, but I bet she is just mistaken."
He dismissed the allegation.
Jeff and Liu couldn't be lying to us, could they? Melanie could be in danger.

The news anchor said that more news will be revealed soon, I hope they show photo proof that Jeff Hodek is still alive or at least not who we've been getting involved in.
I pulled out my phone to call Melanie and warn her.
I called her but she didn't answer, I slouched back in the couch as my continued shaking.
I swear, please call me back soon.

After I ate dinner, I decided to just text her.
"Hey, we need to talk about Jeff. I don't think hes safe to be around."
I pressed send before going into my room and changing.
"Y? He's a sweetheart"
She texted a back a few minutes later.
"Police found out that Jeff Hodek is still alive apparently."

"I just looked up what youre talking about. They don't have photo evidence yet though. Plus, what does our Jeff have anything to do with it?"
She asked, I sighed softly as I typed my reply.
I'm sure she would ignore my concern.
"Is it possible that his real last name isn't Woods?"
I asked as she started to type back.
"He's shown me photos and stuff with his name on it, all of them say Woods. So, no."
I understand why she wouldn't believe me but he could easily lie to her. She's so fucking naive and denies that.
"He could manipulate you Mel."
I texted back.
"What's your problem with him? Ever since youve met him, you act weird about him."
She typed back, I assumed that she was getting frustrated.
"Im just looking out for you"
I texted back, I really didn't want to argue with her.
"I'm an adult, I can look out for myself."
She texted back, I decided to just end the conversation.
"Ok"
I just put my phone away and pulled out a book off of my shelf.
I really did wish I was just jumping to conclusions, but I hope Melanie will at least confront him about it.
