I've already talked in a previous analysis about how the front-of-the-chapter arts seem to connect with each other. (I recommend reading the two-part analysis I wrote directly before this one about the front-of-the-chapter arts for clarity!)
To me, these artworks go to show Yuu's character development from not knowing Mika's alive to learning that he is alive.
After taking some time to re-read Seraph of the End, I stumbled upon this:
I can't help but feel that this artwork is connected to the other two artworks.
For instance, Yuu is sitting, and Mika is standing, which resembles the chapter 34 art. However, one can easily notice that Yuu is looking at Mika, not at the sky.
This is a very obvious change from the previous two arts, in which Yuu looks up at the sky.
To give a bit of context, this newer art appears inside (not on the cover of) the English version of volume 10 of the manga (I'm not sure if the art appears inside the Japanese edition of volume 10, but I'm too lazy to find out); this is around the time when Yuu and Mika have their first blood-drinking scene and later drive a vehicle to the airport to meet up with Shinoa squad. Chapter 34 takes place one chapter before Mika fights the Demon Army by himself in order to get Yuu back. In chapter two, Yuu is thirsty for revenge, is in high school, and is unaware that Mika is still alive.
