Both have Yuu and Mika in them. Mika looks at Yuu with a smile. Yuu gazes at the sky.

In the chapter two art, the sky is dark. But in the chapter 34 art, the sky is blue. The blue sky could represent the hope Yuu has after learning Mika is still alive. This is emphasized by the grown-up Mika standing behind him.

When Yuu thought about Mika (before the time they first reunited), he always pictured him as the child in the livestock uniform.

Now that Yuu knows Mika is still alive, it makes sense that Yuu would imagine Mika in the uniform of the vampires--the one Mika wore when they first reunited.

By chapter 23, Mika is wearing a new uniform; yet this new uniform is not on the chapter 34 front-of-the-chapter art

I wonder if Yamamoto made the chapter 34 front-of-the-chapter art before drawing the new uniforms in the manga

I wonder if Yamamoto made the chapter 34 front-of-the-chapter art before drawing the new uniforms in the manga. Did Yamamoto draw the old uniform on purpose?

If the latter is a yes, then it is possible the chapter 34 art could represent Yuu's thoughts.

In both artworks, Yuu's sword leans near his heart.

The sword from chapter two was for the sake of revenge.

In chapter two's art, Yuu looks up at the night sky, away from the light. This can represent Yuu's heart opening to darkness--in this case, revenge.

Yuu stares at the blue sky. The light hits Yuu.

Now with his cursed gear, Yuu's greatest wish is to protect his family.

Because Yuu has the image of a living, grown-up Mika in his head, Yuu has a more positive goal.

In the chapter 34 art, Yuu does not wear a hat nor a cape. Yuu's collar is open, exposing his neck.

In the chapter two art, Yuu is more formally dressed up with the hat and cape. Yuu does not expose his neck.

This difference could symbolize that after reuniting with Mika, Yuu is a different person.

Back in chapter two, Yuu was a difficult person. He was arrogant enough to say he was going to kill all the vampires by himself. He was stubborn enough to say he did not need friends. He was an uptight dude.

After reuniting with Mika for the first time, he has opened up to other people. He is not afraid to say he has friends he cares about. Yuu exposing his neck in the art could symbolize Yuu's openness towards other people.

Another interpretation is that this could foreshadow Mika drinking from Yuu's neck in chapter 36, given this art is only two chapters away from the blood-drinking scene.

Yuu, in the chapter 34 art, sits.

This could possibly reference Yuu being unconscious at the end of chapter 34

This could possibly reference Yuu being unconscious at the end of chapter 34. Yuu is not looking back at Mika, while Mika is looking at him one-sidedly. This could represent how when Mika reaches Yuu in chapter 35, Yuu does not know, since he is unconscious.

Another interpretation to Yuu sitting is that Yuu is more relaxed compared to back in chapter two. Of course, Yuu still looks up at the sky, determined to protect his comrades and Mika.

Both Yuu and Mika's faces in the chapter 34 art have dirt on them. This could represent how they have struggled in battle. They have gotten stronger. They have the ability to protect each other (unlike when they were kids back in Sanguinem). This may be a sign of evolution in their characters compared to chapter two's art, where their faces are clean.
