The car was enveloped in the sounds of the tires running on the road with the swirling of the wind. The silence inside was deafening but Taehyung could not keep his curious eyes from going to the figure sitting beside him in complete oblivion.
Ever since they exited the hospital, he had asked Eve if she wanted to go home. But she had simply shaken her head denying. He had the idea that the girl called 'Minhee' was someone special to her and her demise had affected her greatly.
He decided to take her to a place where he and his friends came to relax and chill at times. That place was a private property among the noble families owned by him. He drove through the thick forest as the car climbed the almost steep slope. He gazed back at Eve who had her eyes closed the whole time.
He felt bad for her and wanted to make her feel better by any means possible. He didn't know why but he had to. Maybe what Mia had said was taking effect. He quickly shook his head as he tried to concentrate on the task at hand. After a good 15 minutes of drive through the forest, they finally arrived at the dome shaped open arena. It was a small shelter kind of thing which had benches on the edges. The view overlooking it was ethereal.
The sun had started to set showing a beautiful display of clouds and sun rays mingling. He turned the power of the car down as he looked at his side.
With her eyes closed, Eve looked so peaceful but he could barely imagine the turmoil of emotions inside her. He gently touched her cheek as a tear dropped sneaked out from the corner of her eye. She opened her eyes at the contact.
"Let's go outside." Taehyung said as he got out of the car as Eve followed.
He held her hand and brought her to the edge that was tiled. He sat down pulling her with him as they sat side by side watching the sun drown behind the hills. He sighed as he watched.
"How are you?" He asked out of blue.
"I am not fine." Taehyung looked at her to find her crying again.
He grabbed her right hand in his big ones.
"Talk it out. I will listen to you." He said with a smile.
The words rolled out of his tongue even before he could contemplate what to say. But what is done is done and he really wanted her to feel better. So he urged her more.
She took a deep breath.
"Minhee became my friend last year when she was on a trip to Seoul. She was on the Gangnam tower that day watching the moon and singing. I found her so fascinating because everyone thought that she was some crazy girl singing while watching the sky. I approached her. I had asked her then if she was a local but then she said she had been travelling around the globe in a quest of seeking an answer to her question. She was such a dumbo," she laughed at that thought, " she was diagnosed with lung cancer at that time and her doctor had given her an year before she would ultimately perish. She was a normal happy go lucky person who had a good job, sufficient income, a supportive family. But then suddenly she got to know that she would live for only an year. She had shown me her bucket list of things she had planned to do in the year she was left. That stupid girl never told about her condition to her parents. She had told them that she was going on a long trip. But she told me. I still don't know why but I was glad she had found me trustworthy to be disclosed that secret. I had been visiting her in the hospital for a month now. That is why I came late to you for certain evenings. But today the doctor called himself to inform that she didn't have enough time. She was such a beautiful person. She never got low in spirits even when she was in that condition. She was always a ray of sunshine. But now...she is gone."
Taehyung pulled her into his embrace as she buried her face in his chest. He placed his chin on her head as he rubbed circles in her back trying to calm her down.
"I think she is in a better place now. She is free from all the pain and ache that she was suffering from. And above all she saw you before she left. I could see how happy she was to see you. Although she didn't want her family to know about her condition and I know they would eventually know about it but she chose you to be with her in her last moments. Your presence was enough for her to leave peacefully. Didn't you hear she said that you were her angel ?" He asked as he looked down at the head that was still in his embrace.
He pulled her out and watched her red rimmed puffy eyes and her red nose and that little pout. If they would not have been in that circumstance, he would called her cute but he knew this was not the time.
He held her head as he brought her closer and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. He caressed her hair brushing away the tiny strands from her face.
"The sun looks so pretty." She said as she averted her gaze.
"Yeah...it is." He said but little did she know that he wasn't talking about the sun she was looking at but he was talking about the girl sitting in front of her who had an equally pretty heart.
