Me and Cree ran through the streets of Polis. Well we tried to run, but there were so many people blocking the street that we kinda had to push and shove people out of the way causing them to grunt and curse.
"Sorry. Excuse me, coming through!" I rammed through a group of Sangedakru traders, causing them to drop a basket of rare stones. Whoops.
We finally made it to the opening where the training arena was located and to make matters worse, the whole demonstration was over. There were no other natblidas in sight, just the commander and Titus. Great. Me and Cree crouched behind a rock out of sight.
"Shit, what do we do?" "They are both there waiting for us!" I whisper-shouted.
Cree shuffled on his feet. "Errrrr we are just gonna have to face the music."
I sighed. "We are so dead, come on." I stood up from behind the rock and walked up to the commander and Titus. Cree came up beside me a few seconds later.
We were met with a really angry Titus who looked like he wanted to kill us and a commander who kept her expression neutral. Me and Cree looked up to the two adults waiting to be screamed at.
"You two missed the whole demonstration!" Titus spoke through gritted teeth. "The two of you are the most promising novitiates and you skip a vital fighting demonstration! One of you will most likely be the commander one day, I can not allow this foolish behaviour!" Titus was practically fuming at this point.
The commander looked at us, her blue eyes searching ours. "What made you miss the fighting demonstration?" She questioned us in an authoritative voice.
Me and Cree looked at each other, trying to figure out how we were going to explain our answer.
"Um, well, we were in the forest. And er-." Cree started but stopped at a loss of what to say. We needed it to sound like a genuine excuse.
"We started talking about things and we lost track of time." I looked up at the two adults. "Sorry."
The commander and Titus looked to each other, their expressions unreadable.
"I don't want to see you two late for any further lessons or training, we cannot allow that." The commander looked at the two of us with a stern expression. "I trust that Titus will give you a fitting punishment, but if you are late again, the punishment will be much worse." The Commander kept her eyes on ours before walking away from us.
I let out a breath I wasn't even aware I was holding. Damn she was scary sometimes. But Titus was still standing there about to punish us.
"As a punishment to your actions you will go hungry this evening." Titus walked away, satisfied with our punishment.
When the coast was clear I looked over to Cree who looked at me. We burst out laughing after the awkward stand off.
"I'm actually starving," I said through laughing.
Cree stopped his laughing and stood up from his crouched position. "Same, but I guess we will have to wait till breakfast." He smiled. "Come on, let's get back to the dorm."
We both started to walk out of the training arena, back to the dorm. We laughed and joked as we walked back, remembering Titus's angry face.
***
Cree and I opened the door to the dorm where all the other natblidas were sitting on their beds doing there business. Some of them looked up at us, wondering why we were absent for hours. I walked up to my bed and took my amour off. I noticed a pair of eyes staring at me and Cree, it was Astrid.
