She winced as she took another blow to her head, clutching it tightly as she not-so-gracefully fell to the floor.
"HOW DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN!?" he screamed, tugging her hair as she cried and begged for him to stop.
"I don't k-know!" she cried out, pushing him away and sliding into a corner of the room.
"You're useless. We're done, Roseanne.".

And that was it.
His last words.
Before he left.

P R E S E N T

Roseanne grumbled, annoyed as a small figure jumped on her bed.
"Wake up! It's my birthday!" the figure squealed, falling onto her sleeping body and hugging it tightly, making her smile. Roseanne hugged back and sat up, still keeping the child warm in her embrace.
"Mornin' sweets." she smiled, looking at the child who was currently curled up in her lap with adoration.

"You're finally up!" the child said in fake astonishment, making Roseanne crack a small smile. She nodded and picked the small girl up, sighing once she saw the state of her living room.
"I can't keep paying for all of these stains to be cleared, Lily. We don't have enough money." Roseanne explained. The girl smiled and nodded broadly, almost making the other blind. She placed her on a high-chair and went into the kitchen, bringing out a pre-made, small cake and placing candles on top of it.

"I'm sorry it isn't much, I promise I'll try and get some more for you," Roseanne said, giving Lily a look of pity. The girl grunted but still smiled, eating the cake while humming.
"Wait- Lily. The candles-" Roseanne panicked, smiling while trying to pry her daughter's hands off the cake and looking at the squashed candles. She re-arranged them and placed the cameo once more in front of her.

"Make a wish," Roseanne said, grinning and staring at Lily as she closed her eyes and blew out the candles, cracking a huge smile at her afterwards.
"What did you wish for?" she asked, leaning on the counter.

"I wished to see my daddy."
