I sit beside Callen in the passenger seat, my nerves swirling around my stomach and mixing with excitement as I watch the streets pass outside. Callen takes my hand, causing me to look at him. He glances at me before turning back to the road.
"You will be fine," he assures me.
"Were you nervous for your first mission?" I ask.
"Yes," he says. "And for the next 20 after that."
I nod and bite my lip, looking out the window as we turn a corner and see the building the show was being held in. Callen squeezes my hand, which he had still been holding. I look at him as he slows the car to a halt before he lets go of my hand to put the car into park. He looks at me and gives me and encouraging nod. Callen gets out of the car as a man opens the door for me. He helps me out of the car as Callen gives the keys to the car to another man. I wait for Callen to come around the car before taking his offered arm, letting him lead me into the building. I take a deep breath and Callen looks down at me, placing his hand on top of mine.
"You'll be fine," Callen assures me again.
"I hope so," I mutter.
As we enter, I forget to breathe. The room was large and filled with people and mannequins showing off the couples latest designs. I try to mimic the stance of the wealthy women floating around the room. Their tiny waists and stunning dresses left me feeling very conscious of my own. I subconsciously wrap an arm around my stomach. Callen notices this.
"You look beautiful," he says quietly. I look at him as he surveys the room. He glances down at me and gives me a genuine smile. I didn't trust myself to speak so I just smile back at him before looking around the room. I spot Kensi walking around the room in a waitress' uniform, carrying delicate foods before she disappears into the crowd. I see Deeks at the bar and he gives me a nod before turning his attention to a man in a black suit. Sam stood at the wall on the opposite side to Deeks, the badge hanging from his breast pocket telling everyone he was security. It was comforting seeing the three of them distributed around the room.
"The Fox's are just over there," Callen whispers into my ear. I spot the fashion designers speaking to a group.
"What's our plan?" I ask, watching the group
"We mingle." I look at Callen to find him scrunching his nose as he looks around the room. I giggle at him. He looks at me. "What?"
"You're not a mingler, are you?"
"That obvious?" he asks, trying to hide his smile.
"Yeah, it is." I notice he was tense as he surveys the room. "Relax."
He looks at me. "I thought you were the nervous one."
"I am, but I'm also not the one who's body language is screaming that I'm tense."
"I'm not tense." A small group of women walk past, glancing at us.
"Babe, I know this isn't your scene, but just relax," I say, loud enough for the group to hear. "It's just for a couple of hours. Do it for me." I give Callen a pleading look. He sighs.
"Anything for you," he says, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me closer and placing a kiss atop my head. I smile up at him as I place a hand on his chest. The women, who would have been only a couple of years younger than me, giggle as they move past.
"You're a natural at this," Sam says in my ear. I almost jump at his voice, forgetting that I was wearing an earpiece. Callen chuckles at my fright and I gently hit his chest.
"I keep forgetting that I can hear you," I mutter, looking over at Sam, who was trying not to smile.
"You get used to it," Kensi says. "Eventually."
