A Furry Friend

Neil soon felt the weight (Mass × gravity) increase on his shoulder, he paused the shinchan episode on his phone and looked sideways to see Avni breathing evenly. She had dozed off. He turned off his phone and went to sleep too.

The next morning, Neil woke up earlier than her, after caressing her hair, he got up from the bed, went to the drawer, took out a headache pill and put it in Avni's backpack . His knuckles brushed against through papers and he took them out.

Avni had written some articles on animal rights, cruelty exerted on them and more. So this is what she wrote on, he was quite unaware of this fact. His eyes immediately lit up, as he found a perfect gift for her.

"What are you doing?'' Avni asked, Neil turned around and smiled at her. 'Just reading your articles, really good though..' He complimented, giving her a thumbs up. 'Thank you, one is going to be there in today's edition also.' Avni's eyes were dreamy, she was so happy for her article !

'Aa gaya hoga abhitak.' Neil tapped his chin, went for a bath, came out and went down, Avni followed the same thing.

'Aha ! Here it is!' Neil rummaged through the newspaper and yelled excitedly. Avni snatched the newspaper from him and smiled wholeheartedly. 'Well done Avni! Chalo, let's have poha then!' Bebe clapped her hands, Avni hesitated for a while but later agreed.

Avni, Neil, Prakash and Kareena went to their workplaces, it was for the first time after that fiasco she joined them for something. 'I just hope Neil mends it soon....' Bebe joined her hands and muttered a prayer.

"Bebe, mom, bua, don't tell Avni about this okay?" Neil spoke is hushed tones, smiling imagining the smile on Avni s face. "She's already in her room, came back early." Shweta spoke, eager to see the gift.

"Really? I'm going." Neil grinned and ran upstairs. "You're back early?" Avni acknowledged his presence. "Yep, and I have a gift for you. Actually 2." Neil scratched the back of his neck.

"Even I do. Two gifts." Avni looked down. Neil was flabbergasted. "First I'll show mine." She hastily added, and presented a new waistcoat for him, like he liked to wear. Neil was just so happy at the small gesture of hers. "You made me laugh after ages...So...." she justified. "And I have one for you, hold on." Neil went out of the room and brought her gift.

"Tada! Our new pet dog!" Neil presented a cute little puppy in front of her, grinning. "Oh my God! So cute." Avni took the little creature in her hands, playing with his hair. She took out a ribbon and tied a bow around his neck, both of them laughed at the super cute dog.

"What shall we name him?"
"Mint!" Avni exclaimed. Mint wagged his tail at her, cheerfully barking. Mint ran out of the room and Avni started to chase it but Neil stopped her. "Its dinner time, go wash your hands." He said sternly. "But I want to play with him-" Nullyfying Avni s protests, he dragged her to washroom and made her wash her hands. She pouted and angrily splashed the soap water on his face which accidentally went into his eye. He shrieked in pain, palming his eye. Avni stopped grinning and looked at him, tensed. "I'm so sorry. All I wanted was some harmless fun!" She apologised and washed his face numerous times.

His eye had turned red so she put her eyedrop into it, which gave him a burning sensation.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you." Avni said, guilty, to see Neil in pain

"Me too Avni, I didn't want to hurt you." He spoke after a few seconds.

Avni was hit hard by these words and so she decided to give Neil his second gift. "Neil, I cancelled our Divorce."
