We need to talk

This is after Avni comes back after getting humiliated with Ali.

"I wanted to talk and she slept..ughh" Neil thought looking at the sleeping beauty in front of her. He wanted to say a lot of things, apologise properly and make sure she trusted him. But she slept.

He didn't think it was ideal to touch her; so he took a jug of water and kept his knees on the bed so that he was hovering above her and was about to empty the contents of the jar when a sudden whack at his hand made him drop the jar onto the floor and he was thrown sideward. He brushed his hair off his face, flabbergasted , and saw Avni making her fists ready for a hard knock.

"What...how...why!?" He looked on,panting. "Gotta be alert while sleeping. What were you trying to do anyway?" She didn't lower her hands, hoping for another mysterious assault on her.

"I wasn't doin anything lady! Just trying to wake you up!" Neil screamed when she glared at him. "At 11 in the night? How decent for a police officer." She hastened her speech during the last line.

"Yeah, So?" She asked, lowering her hands and sitting comfortably. "Do...do we need reasons to talk to each other?" Neil asked, surprised by her tone.

"I do not take interest in answering questions which hold obvious. Answers." She spoke as if she was counting her every word, her eyes weren't warm.

"Oh." He tried his best to hide the disappointment but he was sure he didn't because Avni shook her head a few seconds later.

"Um... we have a lot of misunderstandings between us so I thought the time was the best.. to talk." Neil clarified, crossing his legs and rested her hands on the top of his.

"Sure we do. Actually, I'm the only one with some misunderstandings. Like for example, um, yeah
a) I thought you wanted to remain in a marriage. You want to, but of course with Rhea. So basically you wanted to stay in an economic indenture." Avni took a sip of water from the glass kept beside her and looked at the broken glass jar on the floor .

Neil was sure he stopped breathing for three seconds; what was she saying. She was speaking in a legit manner.

After three seconds, she resumed.

"And
b) I really thought we could stay together after my aim is accomplished but perhaps, this all little drama was nicely framed by the very idiotic members of your family."

Ouch. Neil that hurt.
Neil spoke to himself and looked on as she picked up a glass fragment, scanning it with her piercing blue eyes.

"
c) I really thought you trusted me but that trust was equivalent to the trust I have on Dayawanti. Basically, null and void." She twirled the fragment in her hand, making red marks on her hands and broke it.

"And lastly, d) I thought you were committed. I thought we could work out everything between us. I thought we could take this forward but...Ceasefire violates." She threw the piece back to the floor and looked at him.

"Do you basically mean to say that...You are hurt and you hate me?" Neil was feeling like an absolute stupid person. He understood legal language but he never thought he would talk in it with Avni.

"Who cares if I am?" She retorted , staring at him with her head tilted.
"I do. I'm extremely sorry. I know you're really angry...I...despise Rhea! And...none of the four points are true...We are going to work it out. It's going to be absolutely fine and perfect, just the way you want it to be." He held her hands firmly, hoping there would be some electric sparks which would make her understand.

"No. It's a no. Just tell me when we can have a divorce. Mutual consent."

"Fine if you're dheet, but listen to one thing, it's never going to be a mutual consent." Neil declared staring at her smirk.
