Prologue

"Allan, Mark, Phoebe, Ruth and Sierra, go inside my office, now." Mrs. Romero called without looking at us as she walked passed our desk.

"Hala! Bakit kaya?" Allan nervously asked. We just shrugged our shoulders then quickly stood up and left our desk."Wala naman akong ginawang kasalanan pero kinakabahan ako." He added.

Phoebe and I looked at each other with confusion. We really have no idea why she suddenly called us but I started to recall what I did this past few days.

Bihira lang kasi siya magpatawag, at kung magpapatawag nga, lahat ng pumasok, lalabas ng lumuluha.

I shake the negative thoughts off my head, it's too early to conclude.

"Oh ganito, ako kakatok tapos, Phoebe, ikaw na maunang pumasok." Mark said as we head to the office.

"Hala! Bakit ako? Si Sierra na lang." Sabi ni Phoebe habang tinutulak ako papunta sa harap.

"Ang aarte niyo! Ako na lang mauuna." Ruth volunteered then rolled her eyes and slightly flipped her hair while she walked ahead of us.

"Sige, mauna ka na rin mamatay." Pabirong bulong ni Phoebe. Halos lahat kami ay inis kay Ruth pero pinapabayaan na lang namin maliban kay Phoebe na laging may side comments sa bawat sasabihin ni Ruth. Pero mas gusto naman namin si Ruth kesa sa iba nyang kaibigan dahil mas malala pa ang mga iyon kaysa kay Ruth.

Gaya nga ng sabi ni Mark, siya ang kumatok at si Ruth naman ang naunang pumasok habang kami ay nakasunod sa kaniya. Sabay sabay naman kaming bumati saka kami pinaupo ni Mrs. Romero sa sofa katapat ng table niya kaya nagkaroon ako ng tiyansa para matitigan siya.

Mrs. Romero is our head engineer. Most of us are scared of her. She is now old and very strict when it comes to work. We rarely even see her smile making her look more frightening but you can tell that she's sophisticated.

"I know you're all busy, so I'll be straight to the point. I've been watching all of you work since then," Panimula niya na mas ikinakaba naming lahat.

Did she saw us slack off? Are we getting fired?

"The reason why I called all of you is because I wanted you to become part of my team on this big project." She paused, giving us time to process what she just said.

We gasped in delight. Hindi namin akalain na isa palang magandang balita ang aming maririnig.

"Thank you so much, Ma'am! I really appreciate that you considered me as your team member. You did not made a mistake in choosing me. I promise that I'll do my best and I won't let you down." Ruth said in exhilaration.

"Pabibo." Pabulong na sabi ni Phoebe kahit na nagdiriwang kami sa tuwa. Siniko ko naman siya patago at sinenyasan na hayaan nalang.

I see nothing wrong about that. It's only natural to act that way, it's just how she expressed her overwhelming happiness, I guess.

"I know all of you are the most outstanding and competitive engineers here in our firm. I'm looking forward to work with all of you. But prove yourself first to me." She continued and handed us a copy of the project. "Review that and we'll have a meeting tomorrow. We'll see if each one of you are deserving, don't disappoint me, okay? You may all leave."

We all thanked her before leaving her office.

"Oh my gosh!" Ruth shrieked right after she went to her friends' desk. "Girls, you won't believe what I just got!" Patuloy niya pa habang pinapakita ang project proposal na binigay sa amin kanina.

"Oh my! Congrats girl! You deserve it!" One of Ruth's friend said but with a hint of sarcasm and jealousy.

Napairap na lang si Phoebe sa kanila. "Hindi ba niya nahahalatang pina-plastik lang siya o talagang hinahayaan lang niya?" Tanong ni Phoebe sa akin.
