It's been six months since everyone was freed from the Habitat. While many had gone their separate ways everyone still remained close to one another. That is, all except for Boris Habit.
The dentist considered himself an outcast after what he'd done and purposefully found a home on the outskirts of the city. He felt awful for his plans and couldn't forgive himself after what he'd done to poor Flower Kid, who would forever be left with two missing front teeth. The child had promised to be his friend, but Habit couldn't handle allowing them to be around him, so he locked himself away in his small home with only his lily keeping him company.
Meanwhile, Flower Kid watched the poor fellow florist leave, despite their silent pleas that he wouldn't. After Boris left, Flower chose to try and go back to their old home, see if they could find their parents, however not on their entire free will. Their parents were about as awful to them as the Habits had been to poor Boris when he was a child, but the little flower child couldn't bear to bother anyone else with being homeless.
Of course, their parents ended up kicking them out, trying to send them back to the Habitat only to discover it's closing, do whatever to get rid of the child, for they didn't want them anymore. Flower Kid ended up being left alone at an orphanage in the city where they ended up trying to call for the other Habiticians. They felt selfish in doing so as they flipped through the scribbly notepad of phone numbers, but they didn't want to leave everyone behind by being pulled away into a foster family.
Luckily, they received an answer. Kamal Bora returned the call and talked with the caretaker at the orphanage over the phone. He learned of his friends situation and was quick to act, adopting little Flower Kid within about a week. Flower felt awful for bothering him, but sweet, young Kamal didn't mind at all. He had a nice home, a good job, and plenty of extra time to take care of the little child.
He's been caring for Flower Kid for around four of these six months now, and the two have bonded quite a bit. Since Kamal's house is small, the little florist has been sleeping on the couch despite Kamal's insistence that they take his bed. It's dark and a fierce thunderstorm is brewing outside. Kamal wakes up to a loud crack of thunder, lightning shooting down so bright that it lights up his whole room as if it's daytime. He's startled, obviously, and looks around frantically when he wakes. That's when he hears a loud cry from the other room.
The dental assistant quickly leaves his bed to head into the living room. He tries to turn on a light only to realize there's been a blackout. He sighs, grabbing a flashlight from his desk drawer and making his way down the hall.
In the living room, poor little Flower Kid is laying on the couch, curled up in a little ball. The only part of them that sticks out from under their blanket is the little buttercup flower that sits on the top of their head. Loud, muffled cries can be heard from under the soft material as the mass trembles in fear. Kamal sets the flashlight aside, leaving it on to provide some light, and gently sinks onto the couch beside his little flower child. He carefully reaches out a hand, setting it gently onto Flower's back through the soft fabric covering them. They tense at the touch, but slowly peeks out from under the blanket. Once they see who's beside them, they quickly shuffle around and snuggle into their guardians side, whimpering quietly.
Kamal slowly wraps his arms around the little blanket mass, holding his flower close. He stays that way until he's sure the child has fallen back asleep, then carefully lifts them into his arms, albeit shakily, he's not very strong. He quickly moves them to his bed, going back to grab the flashlight then returning as quickly as possible. When he returns, Flower Kid is awake again. The storm has calmed a little bit by now, so the dental assistant gets to sit with Flower Kid, watching the rain in his window.
After a moment, he feels a tug on his blue pajama shirt, causing him to turn his attention back to the child. Flower Kid holds up their hands, indicating they're going to sign. They're selectively mute, so they usually use sign language as communication over actual speech. It's better than the nodding and head shaking they used to do why they were in the Habitat.
"I had a nightmare..." Flower Kid signs.
Kamal gives a sad sigh. "What was it about, Kid?" His voice is quiet and calm.
"Dr. Habit..."
Kamal visibly tenses, if only slightly. "Did... d-did he hurt you?"
Flower Kid shakes their head. "He was hurt... I... punched him... I had the punching glove in my hand..." They're tiny hands trembled as they signed.
Kamal tenses a little more. "You did? You told me before that you'd done that... you broke the window too..."
Flower Kid nods, giving a very quiet whimper. "In the dream... I punched him again... and..." Flower Kid falters, whimpering a little louder. "Sorry..."
Kamal bites his lip. "He fell... didn't he?"
Flower Kid nods, sniffling.
"Hey, Hey, no need to cry..." Kamal sighs, pulling the child into a hug. "Look, that wasn't what happened, and even if it was... I honestly would not have blamed you for it... he did bad things, he hurt you, he... he hurt everyone." Kamal glances away, subconsciously licking at his teeth, remembering the blue they'd turned to after his toothbrush had been taken away. "But that's okay. All we can do now is forgive him, right?" Kamal gives a nervous smile.
Flower glances up at him. "But did we ever forgive him? I know we did, but... did we ever tell him that we did?"
Kamal thinks for a moment. "Uh..." he pauses. "I... thinking now I don't think that we ever did..."
Flower gasps. "We need to forgive him"
Kamal tenses a little. "B-But I think he wants to be left alone, right? Doesn't he-"
He's cut off by the child hugging him. They sign into his hand so he can feel what they're saying.
"Please"
Kamal pauses, gulping a little, then slowly hugs them back. "Okay... we can go tell him tomorrow... if that means it will help with your nightmares... for now though, let's get some sleep."
Flower Kid gives a warm smile that Kamal returns. The two curl up in the little bed and fall asleep to the calm rain, resting up for the morning to come.
