Hi. My name's Lakelyn Morris. My sister is Marcia Morris. We live on the South Side of town, in the exclusive Soc-only neighborhood. I'm 14 years old, a dancer of 12 years, and I have brown hair, like my mom, blue eyes, like my dad, but I have glasses. No one else in my family does.

Tonight, my sister and I are going to the drive-in movies with my our friend, Cherry Valance. She's the prettiest girl I know, and she's also the sweetest.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marcia helped me get ready. I put on a short, but flowy blue skirt, and a matching blue long-sleeve turtleneck. Marcia also curled and styled my hair. I did my own makeup, and I did a full face, but with neutral colors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marcia and Cherry's boyfriends, Bob and Randy pulled up to our house in Bob's car, and Marcia called for me. "Lakelyn! Bob and Randy are here!" I quickly put on some white heels and grabbed my purse. We walked out the door together and got into Bob's car. Randy shouted, "Whoo, Marcia! You look hot!" I rolled my eyes at how disrespectful he can be. Marcia giggled as we left the neighborhood. We stopped by Dairy Queen and got ice creams, and grabbed one for Cherry. Then, we went to pick up Cherry. She ran down her driveway to Bob's car and she gave him a kiss through the window. Bob laughed and she hopped in. I gave her the root beer float and she said, "Thanks, Lakelyn." and grinned.

As we pulled into a spot at the drive-in, Bob pulled out a small, silver canister. As soon as he opened it, it made the car reel of alchohol. Cherry said, "Lakelyn, Marcia, get out." Bob and Randy got out behind us and Cherry shouted, "What do you think you're doing?" Bob retorted, "Cherry, come on! Just relax, just try it! Besides, you're supposed to be my girlfriend." I said, "Bob! She said no. Don't pull anything like this ever again." Randy said, "Chill out, little lady." Marcia said, "Hey! Don't you talk to her like that!" Cherry said, "Come on girls. We're leaving." I nodded and walked in between Cherry and my sister. Marcia said, "Cherry, come on." Cherry responded, "No, I'm not going back there." I added in, "Besides, they're probably going to get drunk and end up in the streets. I know I don't want to stick around for that." Marcia said, "Well, Lakelyn, you're right, I guess." We walk to the sitting area, and sit in front of 3 greasers. I'm sitting next to Marcia, with an empty seat next to me. I notice one of the greasers locks eyes with me for a second, and I quickly smile as I sit. Gosh, he was dreamy. His deep brown eyes and muscular body was the only thing on my mind until Marcia says, "You sure you wanna do this, Cherry?" She answers, "Yes! I came here to see a movie, so I'm gonna see a movie!" I hear the greasers chatter behind us, and I look at my sister. She pulls her jacket in front of her, and looks worried. I shrug it off. An older, looking greaser pretends to light up his cigarette next to Cherry's hair. I giggle at the antics. He says, loudly, to his friends, "Some cute redhead, huh?" I don't hear a response from either of the other boys. The older greaser whispers inside of her ear, "Are you a real redhead?" The smallest greaser says, "Come on, Dal." He puts his feet on the back of her chair and he ends up falling. I giggle and look at the two other boys. The muscular one looks at me and we laugh together at his friend. Dal gets back up and he begins touching on Cherry's hair. He says, "How can I find out if this is your real hair?" I hear the smaller greaser jump in again and say, "Really, Dal?" Dal sits back and the small one cuts in again and says, "Cut it out, Dal." I look over at Cherry and she looks like she's about to explode. I look at Marcia and signal for her to look at Cherry. She whistpers, "You alright, Cher?" Cherry ignores her as Dal puts his feet on her chair. Cherry whistper-yells, "Get your feet off of my chair and shut your trap!" Dal retorts, "Who's gonna make me, huh? Who? Your boyfriend?" The muscular boy says, "Leave them alone, Dal." I cut in and say, "Please, leave us alone, or-or- I'll call the cops!" Dal pretends to be scared and says, "Oh my, my, my, you got me scared to death! This girl's making me shake." I want to giggle at his dirty reference, but I don't. Marcia says, "Hey! You cool it. She's 14 years old." I sink down in my chair, wanting to be invisible. Cherry says, "Just be nice, and leave us alone!" Dal answers, "Well, I'm never nice." He tries to offer her a soda, but he ends up getting called a hood and told to get lost from Cherry. I giggle and Marcia hits my arm. I look at her and say, "What?" She shushes me and I roll my eyes. Dal says, "You know what? Fine. I'll go." and proceeds to kick his chair. Marcia asks, "Are you gonna start in on us, too?" to the muscular boy. He quietly answers, "No." I look at him and say, "You don't look like the type, anyways." I ask for his name, and he says that it's Ponyboy Curtis. Marcia says, "Well, that's an original name." I jump in and say, "I like it." Ponyboy smiles at me and says, "Yeah, my dad, he was an original type of person. I've even got a brother named Sodapop. It even says so on his birth cerfiticate." I grin and he giggles. I say, "My name's Lakelyn." Ponyboy says, "Yeah, I know. We go to the same school, you're on the dance team. You're the captain, right?" I grin and answer, "Yeah!" Marcia says, "You don't look old enough to be going to high school." Ponyboy says, "Yeah, but neither does Lakelyn." We both giggle and Marcia gives me her 'death stare.' I quit giggling and listen to Cherry talk to him. "What's a nice boy like you doing, hanging around with that trash?" I whisper to her, "I wouldn't call his friends that." She ignores me. He talks about how he's a greaser and friends with all of the greasers. Cherry apologizes for being mean to his friend. Marcia asks, "Your brother, Soda, does he work at the gasoline station? The DX, I think?" Ponyboy nods and answers, "Yeah, that's him." Cherry says, "He's a doll. I should've know yall were brothers." I frown. Is she really hitting on him? She's 17 and he's 14. That's disgusting. I cut in and say, "Yeah, Ponyboy, you're a doll." He blushes and says, "Thanks." I smile at how shy he is. They begin talking about Soda not being at school, and Dal brings Cherry a soda. He says, "Here. Maybe this will cool you off." Cherry throws the drink in his face and yells, "Maybe you need to cool off!" Dal tries to kiss Cherry, and possibly even more, but the small greaser steps up to Dal and says, "Dallas. Leave her alone." Dal looks shocked and asks him, "What'd you say? What'd you say to me, you little shit?" He stands up and throws another chair. Cherry looks at the little one and says, "Thank you. He had me scared to death." He replies, "You sure didn't show it." Marcia says, "Why don't yall come sit by us and protect us?" Ponyboy looks at the small one and says, "We might as well." Ponyboy sits next to me and I smile at him. I ask, "How old are yall?" Ponyboy says, "14." The other boy says, "16." The other boy, who I learned that his name is Johnny, says, "How come yall ain't scared of us, like Dally?" Cherry says, "Because yall look too sweet to hurt anyone." I look at Pony and I say, "It's true. Maybe you would only hurt someone if you absolutely had to." Pony nods and says, "Yep. Sounds like me." I giggle and he blushes. He's SUPER cute when he blushes. Marcia says, "You two aren't mean." Another greaser comes up and scares Johnny and my sister. She laughs and they talk for a while and then some random guys asks, "Where's Dally?" Ponyboy looks at me and says, "I haven't seen him. Have you, Lakelyn?" and winks. I answer, "No. He left a while ago." The boy says, "Yeah, yeah. I'll be looking for him." Cherry and Johnny begin talking about Dally and I look at Ponyboy. I ask, "Ponyboy, could you come with me to get some Cokes and popcorn?" He answers, "Of course." We walk in to the concession room together and we talk about Johnny. I learn that he was beat up by Bob about a month ago, and has been scared to fight ever since. "That's horrible!" I say. He answers, "Yeah. He was just walking to my house. The other day I got beat up for walking home from the moviehouse." I giggle and say, "I guess you sure do like movies a lot." He says, "Yeah. Paul Newmans are my favorite." I smile, because Paul Newmans are my favorite too. We notice some greasers and socs starting a fight. Ponyboy looks at me and smiles. He says, "Come on, let's get outta here. Two-Bit will think we got married and went to Mexico." I laugh and say, "Ponyboy, you're awfully funny." He says, "Happy to make you laugh, anytime." I smile and feel my cheeks getting hot.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The movie finishes, and Johnny, Two-Bit, and Ponyboy offer to walk us home. Cherry, my sister, and I happily agree, since Bob is gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We're walking down the street now. I'm beside Ponyboy and Cherry is walking with Johnny. Marcia is walking with Two-Bit. Cherry and Johnny walk up beside us and Cherry says, "So, Pony. Tell me about your older brother. You never seem to talk about him." Ponyboy answers, "What's to tell? He's big and runs the house." Cherry says, "No. Really, what's he like? Is he wild and reckless, like Soda or-" I cut in and say, "Sweet and dreamy like you?" Pony smiles at me, then looks at Cherry. He talks about how Darry can't stand him. Bob's car pulls up and I say, "Oh no." Two looks at me and says, "Who are these goons?" I say, "Their boyfriends." Bob gets out and yells, "Cherry! What are you doing? Just because we got a little drunk doesn't mean you have-" Cherry yells, "A little? You call passing out in the streets 'a little'? Bob, I told you before, I'm never going out with you when you're drinking, and I mean it!" Randy calls the 3 boys bums and I shout, "Randy! Cool it!" He tells me to shut up and Marcia holds my hand. Randy and Two begin to start a fight and I get in between them. I yell, "Stop! Stop! Stop!" Two says, "Aw, come on! We can take 'em!" Cherry yells, "No! We hate fights!" Marcia and I nod our heads in agreement. Marcia says, "Fine! We'll go with ya!" Marcia gets into the car and I say, "Hold on. Ponyboy, I need to talk to you." He walks beside me and we're about a good 10 feet away from the group. I say, "Pony, I'm sorry. You know I didn't want this to happen." He says, "Yeah, I know." I say, "Pony. You're an amazing boy. You're so kind and caring. You're strong and sweet. You're dreamy, too. I'd like to know you better. I'll see you at school." He says, "Okay. I'll see you around." I smile at him and get into Bob's car. Bob drives Marcia and I home, and we get out and go inside. I go up to my room and Marcia follows me. She says, "So, you and Ponyboy?" I laugh and say, "Naw. He's super cute and sweet, and I'd love to be his, but we both know it wouldn't work." I shut my door in her face and sit on my bed. I slowly begin to cry, knowing that I can't have Pony.

I end up crying myself to sleep.
