Chapter 4 (Haven of Lies)

Bella, Adam, and Julian approach Makhail.

Makhail: and you all are?

Bella: oh I'm just the mayors wife.

Adam: nice to meet you, I'm her husband.

Makhail: let me guess you must be the son?

Julian: very funny, no, I'm Bella's brother, and I'm the head sheriff around this town.

Makhail: did y'all need something?

Bella: no, just wanted to congratulate you, Mia has never loss a case, i don't know how she's going to take this one.

Adam: yea.

Makhail: so I'm not needed?

Adam: oh you are, I would like you to come by my office tomorrow, I'd like to have a talk with you.

Makhail: ok.

Bella: see you around.

They all leave. Leslie and her brother pull up.

Leslie: need a ride?

Makhail: uh, doesn't your brother hate me?

Roy: no, now that I know you did it by accident, sorry for being so rude to you.

Makhail: its cool I guess.

Roy: hop in.

Makhail gets in the car.

Leslie: my stomach hurts again.

Roy: do you wanna go home?

Leslie: honestly yea.

Makhail: i also need to go home.

Roy: oh i was thinking me and you could grab something to eat, it was going to be me and Leslie but, she's not feeling well.

Makhail: sure.

The arrive at Leslie's house. Roy walks her into the house. Makhail finds a news paper.

Makhail: Parents of Leslie & Roy die in a car accident, some say their brakes were cut.

Makhail quickly pulls his phone out and takes a picture of it. All of a sudden Roy come out and snatches the paper from Makhail.

Roy: don't read old news, it's misleading.

Then hops in the car and heads back on the road.

Makhail: whats the real reason you still want me around?

Roy: to tell you the stuff you're not being told.

Roy starts to speed up the car. Makhail puts his seatbelt on and starts to sink deeper into the seat with fear in his eyes. Makhail looks at Roy scared for his life.

Roy: what's wrong, never been in a fast car before?

Makhail: I have, just haven't been in one since I was younger.

Roy: oh.

Roy slows the car down.

Roy: sorry.

Makhail: it's ok.

They pull up at Wendy's.

Makhail: my favorite restaurant, I'll be fine with this.
