Chapter 27

"Urgh, you guys are lucky, yo." Tetsuya looked really done.

"What's wrong?"

"I got a mentor......."

"So what?" Baku shrugged. "I need one too, I got Kuguru."

"Y - I.............." Tetsuya looked anxious. Scared actually. Even his bananas were drooping. "I got that girl from the other class."

"Which one?"

"The scary one........."

He most likely meant Lili. That quiet - no, silent - girl from the next class. Silent, not because she was shy. Rather, she didn't want to talk to anyone at all. White and black hair to her waist, eyes like a fox's and a head taller than several of the shorter boys (including poor Tetsuya) she was nothing short of intimidating. Everyone simply froze when she walked by, even the chirpiest of people. She didn't have a buddy monster either; she chose not to associate herself with the game of Buddyfight.

Noboru's eyes widened. "Ah.....didn't she top her class in economics or something? And chemistry. She's got monster grades."

Tetsuya turned even paler. "I'm doomed, yo."

Asmodai patted his back. "It'll be fine, Tets! And if anything happens....." He turned three sizes bigger and fashioned a huge baseball bat out of thin air, which he swung at Noboru, who immediately dived out of the way.

"OI, WATCH WHERE YOU SWING THAT THING!!!"

The demon grinned. "Bonk."

"DON'T YOU DARE 'BONK' ME, YOU LITTLE - "

"Little??? Look who's talking." He pulled a face at the fuming boy.

"ARGSISHBWJDNNEJWK - "

"Stop it, you two!!!" Kuguru chided, frowning in disbelief and second hand embarrassment. "Anyway, Tetsuya, don't you worry too much about her. I'm sure she won't bite."

He was already scarfing down a third banana, eyes wide with fear. The last one was hanging pathetically, looking as though it was about to drop off at any moment.

"Ah well....." Baku turned to Chihiro. "At least you and Gaito know each other too. That simplifies a lot of things."

"That's kind of true....I've never studied with him before, but that's alright." Chihiro tilted her head in thought. "Anyway, where exactly is he right now? Haven't seen him since school started this morning."

"He told me he's going back home to sleep or something." Gao pointed out. "He seemed to be in a bit of a rush......"

At the park

"Gaito, give me one too."

The purple haired boy stuffed another matcha azuki mochi in his mouth, then passed a blueberry one to Abygale.

Being a bit of an introvert, Gaito needed his own moments alone to rewind and recharge his social battery, but at the same time, he didn't feel like heading home right away.

Besides, the new dessert shop of a well known brand had opened in town, and its speciality was its famous, much loved mochi. It definitely wouldn't hurt to try some for the fun of it.

Munch. Chew.

Maybe he should buy more of them.
