Driving through the streets of London on my way to work definitely calmed my nerves. It could be a mixture of the smooth flowing air filling my car through the windows while I drove or the sound of Stevie Nick's voice playing faintly in the background.
I hummed quietly to the music and took the traffic coming to a halt as an opportunity to check the time.
7:42AM
I have until 8AM to be at work so I felt relaxed that I had so much time left.
Once I arrived in the carpark of the large, tall building I checked to see I was still early and felt relief rush over me.
I got out of the car after parking it and peered up to gaze at the glass sky scraper. From what I have heard this I'd their headquarters so it made sense why it's literally 5 times the size of the workplace I worked at just a few days ago.
This is gonna be a huge adjustment: going from one of their small branches to the big deal, main building. I feel like I don't even deserve to be here but I have my previous boss to thank for that.
It's a nice day; the sky is blue and the sun is beaming down on me which sets the tone and gives me a bit of a booster despite the anxiety sitting in the pit of my stomach.
My car is parked quite far from the entrance so I smile to myself for not wearing heels. I hate wearing heels regardless but today I am especially thankful I did not make that decision.
The breeze flows cooly through my thin white, button up shirt while my black flats click against the pavement of the carpark. I feel happy with my decision of what I'm wearing even though I'm not one to care much about fashion but of course I wanted to make a good impression. I felt comfy too as my legs were warm and snug by the grey plaid dress trousers that cover them.
Finally getting closer to the entrance, I notice the abundance of people entering and exciting the busy building. There was a security system and thankfully I remembered my employee badge which was given to me in the post a couple days ago.
I slip the employee tag out of my purse to show to the security guard who stands wide by the glass entrance. He nods and let's me through.
"Thank you." I subtly thank him and walk into the building. Many people dressed in business attire swarm and pace around the lobby either talking to colleagues or walking over to wherever they have to be.
The amount of people makes me nervous but I remind myself that all these other people had their first time too and I need to calm down but it doesn't work. I wish it was that easy to just push my anxiety out of my head but unfortunately I can't.
My eyes scan the room and I immediately spot the front desk. A short, young man sits behind the desk typing god knows what on the computer. He looks stressed despite it only being the start of the day.
Cautiously, I walk over to the desk trying not to slip or embarrass myself somehow in front of all of these people.
"Um hello." I pipe up. My voice slightly cracks and I mentally roll my eyes but either way it let's his attention.
"Can I help you?" The man smiles forcefully up at me and stops typing on the keyboard.
"Yes please. I'm new here, I was told to go to the CEO's office straight away." I inform him. As soon as I tell him that information his smile is wiped off of his face and his expression changes to a surprised one.
"Well I'll be damned. You're quite the big shot." He giggles to himself like he couldn't quite believe it. What on earth is happening?
An awkward laugh escapes my throat and I shake my head" I don't think so."
