chapter eleven

where the past comes to life

"Where are we going ? I shouldn't be going anywhere with you since I broke up with you earlier today." Erin complained as Jay drove. He didn't say anything. "Jay."

"Be quiet Erin."

"Who are you talking to ?"

Ignoring her again , he finally pulled up to the driveway to his brother's house. Jay got out and Erin sighed before getting out herself and following him inside. Erin took off her coat and hat and gloves and kicked off her boots before walking in to see Jay already drinking beside his brother. Natalie waved softly with a smile and Erin did the same before sitting in the empty chair.

"Tough day ?" Natalie asked her.

"You have no idea."

"You know what ?" Jay randomly snapped before looking at his girlfriend , or ex-girlfriend, that was yet to be determined. "I'm just going to say it."

"Okay." Will trailed off quietly. Him and Jay were texting back and forth about how to tell their girlfriends about Hailey. It was a touchy subject for the two , a very touchy one , one that never bothered speaking about due to the past.

"Hailey's my older sister and Will's younger one. That's it." He told her before finishing his glass and wincing before pouring another cup. Natalie looked at them confused.

"Wait , you guys don't have pictures of her-"

"It's hard to have pictures up of someone who left your family with no trace at all." Will told his girlfriend softly. "Hold on."

Will got up and left before coming back seconds later with small notebook.

"I stole these from the attic from our parents." Will said before pulling out two pictures before giving it to Natalie and Erin. Erin looked down to see the small Halstead's. Jay was on the left with some teeth missing with a small mohawk. Will was on the right , squinting with his small ginger curly puffy hair. And in the middle was a small blonde girl in a frizzy ponytail and blue eyes , blue ones that both women recognized as Hailey.

"Me and her never had anything crazy going on Erin." Jay told her. "I just didn't know how to tell my own sister wanted nothing to do with me."

Erin nodded and she weakly grabbed his hand and mumbling a sorry. The woman wasn't the jealous type but as soon as Hailey caught Jay's eyes , the insecurity in her grew , it grew a lot but she never expected Hailey to be his sister. Not at all.

"What happened ?" She asked him and Jay softly pulled his hand away as Will started to explain.

"We were told she was our cousin." Jay added as he looked off in the distance. It was obvious that Jay was closer to her than Will. He was way more effected by her popping back up than Will was.

" We did everything together , all the time. There was always this small riff between her and mom for some reason and as we got older we started to realize that we could get away with murder but if Hailey accidentally fell , she would get grounded for two weeks. It started getting ridiculous and then right after her graduation , she got like weird -"
