Hello. I am a dog whose name is Scout. I am one of 100 pets to the owner of Grand Duchess Isadora. Why 100? Who knows--I definitely don't! What makes me special? Nothing I guess, not yet anyway. I guess I'm just the one writing this book. Any other dog could be writing a book, but this one is all about me.

So, starting when I was a pup, I grew up normally, had a normal life, and was really normal. Nothing special, I wasn't exceptionally cute, not a pro at tricks, and not even the fastest eater--though I did love food, there was just people that were faster (who doesn't like food?). All I wanted to be was, me--a kind and sweet pup that cares for his friends! Well, that was the key to my success, though I couldn't possibly have known it yet. You see starting from when I was young enough to understand her, my mom would always tell me "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken". I found that really inspiring. She was inspiring. The favorite of the Dutchess, the great mama, the loved one... I was well, just another pup.

But not to her. So, I grew up to be a really kind dog with the help of her. When I got older, I got chosen by the Grand Duchess to go learn some tricks to join this competition group of hers. Yes! This was my chance! I was really really eager to learn! After each session, I practiced and practiced.

One day, one of the older dogs said, "How are you so good? So young, but better than many of us here."

I replied, "Simple. You work hard, you get what you want. Just do what you're supposed to do and make the most of every session."

"Wow, I should really be more like you!"

Life went on... Until this other day Lady Isadora took some of her favorite dogs to a party. Some of my friends and I went and wow! Nothing was ever so fancy--even better than our own mansion!! Except, everyone looked so... grumpy! Well, it is a party! We need to GET THIS PARTY STARTED!! I ran around barking (laughing) and doing some dog stuff to get everyone happy. I led them to the humungous pool in their backyard, and they all started swimming!

Well, it worked! Everyone started saying stuff like "WOW! What an amazing dog!"

How do I understand? Don't underestimate dogs, we can understand things too!! We just can't say them in the human language. Anyway, I was really kind and the barking made people feel good. That was good. What's the moral? Don't say dogs don't matter because all of them do.
