Maddox woke me up, brushed the hair out of my face, and kissed my forehead. My eyes fluttered open and found him looking down at me. The sun was shining in through the curtains, filling the room with light. The sun shone on him, causing his tan skin to turn a gold-tone and his eyes a shining silver-blue color. I leaned into his hand that was resting on my cheek, closed my eyes, and took a relaxed breath in.

"How did you sleep?" Maddox whispered. I sighed, thinking of all the nightmares I had encountered throughout my sleep. Murder, gunshots, and bloodshed all among the things that haunted my mind.

"Not the greatest," I admitted, "You?"

"Same," He replied.

I rested back into his arms. His warmth engulfed me as I pressed myself into his bare skin. He sighed, nuzzling into my hair. Laying here felt like my safety. The second I parted from Maddox, reality would come weighing down on both of us. I wasn't ready to get up yet.

The peace lasted much shorter than I had hoped for. My door opened slowly. Both Maddox and I shot up in bed, barely sitting up before whoever opened the door walked in.

"Norah, I heard about Matteo. Are you doing alright-" Agatha came in and turned to the bed, choking on her sentence when she saw Maddox propped up on my bed, bare torso uncovered from the blanket.

Thank God he had his lower half covered. I'm sure she could guess he was naked though, the way he was clutching the white duvet to his lap gave it away.

I thought she'd run out, but she just widened her eyes.

"Mr. King?!" Agatha hissed in shock.

"Agatha please don't say that too loud. I can explain," I rambled, barely taking a breath. I was scared someone would walk by and hear, or peer in the open door and see Maddox and me.

Agatha didn't ask, only shut the door quietly behind her.

"I'm sure you can!" Agatha tried not to raise her voice, but I could tell she was finding it hard not to. "You two are together?!" I nodded.

"We've been together for a while. We just haven't known how or when to tell anyone," I told her.

"Please keep this to yourself, Agatha. No one knows. We want it to stay that way until we're ready," Maddox said. I know he didn't mean to sound threatening, but it sure came out that way. It was subtle, but Agatha knew who Maddox was to this family. Even I could imagine the casual threatening manner that he was used to.

"You two don't have to worry about me. It's her father you have to worry about," Agatha replied, obvious worry about this situation in her tone. She sighed heavily and motioned towards the door.

"Well, I will be going -" Agatha started, but I got up and came to her before she could open the door.

"Thank you for coming to check on me, Agatha," I thanked her. I was indeed grateful for her concern. She had this way of looking out for me, and I appreciated it.

She smiled genuinely.

"Of course, hun," Agatha looked over to Maddox and leaned in, "We will talk later," She winked and I was shocked. I nodded and watched her leave.

I turned back to Maddox and we both stared, nothing to say.

Someone knew now. How much time did we have left until more people did, too?

Maddox and I went down to the basement separately. It was normal for us to do this to not raise suspicion, but this time we were more on edge.
