Later that night, Jackie sat up, rubbing her eyes. Something was wrong. She stuck her head over the side of the bunk, peering down at a dark figure thrashing around on the bottom bunk.

"Ruby?" She mumbled sleepily. She received no response aside from the panicked breathing from the lower bunk. Jackie sighed slightly, hopped down from her bed, and padded silently over to her best friend. She sat on the edge of the bed and gently shook Ruby awake.

"Gah-! Oh..." Ruby jolted awake, then peered sleepily up at Jackie. "I didn't wake you, did I?" She whispered.

Jackie shook her head. "No. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Ruby whispered, squinting at Jackie, trying to see her more clearly in the darkened room.

Jackie took her friend's hand. "Was it the same nightmare again?"

Ruby hesitated to answer.

"Ruby?"

"Yeah," She sighed, "It was the same one."

"Hmm," Jackie said, and motioned for Ruby to scoot over. She obliged, and Jackie laid down next to her.

"What are you doing?" Ruby whispered.

"Comforting you?"

She grumbled, "We aren't kids anymore. I can handle my own nightmares." Still, Ruby scooted closer, leaning her head on Jackie's shoulder, and settled into a comfortable position.

"Sure you can." Jackie smiled slightly, closing her eyes. "You're Ruby, the toughest cadet in the Horde. Nothing can scare you."

"Nah, just some things..." Ruby mumbled, already half asleep.

"What things?" Jackie whispered. The only response was Ruby's quiet snoring.

Jackie's smile slipped away and she sighed. She felt absolutely terrible for wanting to leave the Horde, and more specifically Ruby, but what choice did she have? Her wavering loyalty was bound to be found out soon, and she didn't want to find out what Hordak did to those who betrayed him. She shifted slightly, trying not to disturb Ruby, and eventually, she drifted into an uneasy sleep.
