My eyes strained at the light that was peering into the room and instantly my hands rose to cover the sight before me. At that moment, the nurse that I had now become familiar with had walked into the room and a smile graced her face when she saw that I had awoken.'How are you today, Adalyn' she questioned with a warm smile on her face.
'I'm alright' I croaked, my voice hoarse after just waking up.
She handed me a glass of water that was perched on the bedside table and watched as I gulped it down.
'What... what day is it today?' I asked her.
'It's Thursday' she answered back and continued to tell me that I had been here for a week.
A week !
Hurrying, I jumped out of bed and went straight into the bathroom. I couldn't afford to miss another day of work.
The nurse immediately became alarmed and followed after me confused on what was happening.
'Adalyn'
Knock
'Adalyn'
Knock
I ignored her calls and opened the tap, spooning hand fills of water and washing my face. I gargled my mouth not wanting to keep my morning breath and dried my face with the same towel that I had used yesterday.
Hurrying, I opened the door of the bathroom and was immediately met with the face of the nurse who had been taking care of me for the whole duration I had been here.
I gently pushed her aside and went to fetch the bag that was still in the same place.
The nurse followed after me again but this time had taken ahold of my wrist and turned me around so I was facing her.
'What... what's happening Adalyn?' she questioned, a worried look in her eyes.
'I... I need to get out of here, please'
She led me towards the bed, still holding my wrist and pushed me carefully to sit down.
'Listen to me' she said, a serious expression had taken over the warm smile she always wore.
'You are in no state to be walking out of here, you haven't fully recovered'
'But' I attempted to interrupt her.
She held up a hand, and I quickly closed my mouth. She took my silence as a means for her to continue talking.
'and I won't be able to live with myself if you walked out these doors especially in your condition.'
'You don't understand, I need to go, I have to, she'll find me.
She always does.'
'Who are you talking about, you're safe here' the nurse responded in hopes to ease my worries, but no words could ease the thoughts racing in my mind.
~~~
I ran, I ran as fast as my legs could take me, I ignored my lungs that were begging me to stop to catch my breath. I ignored my legs that struggled to support the weight it had been carrying.
