We arrived at an old building that looked like apartments. They were similar to the ones I lived in if they were old and abandoned.
Dimitri got out of the car and opened the back door. He had the rope in his hands and looked at me with an apologetic face. He tied the rope around my wrists, digging into the marks that were already there.
I attempted to fight, but again, he was too strong. I tried to loosen the rope, but it was no use.
"Get out," he said sternly.
"What? No. I don't even know where we are."
"Iris I swear to god, I don't want to fight with you," he leaned in, lips hovering just above my neck, "but if you give me anymore trouble, I won't hesitate to kill your ass."
I looked up at him, confused where the once nice Dimitri went.
He ran his pointer finger down my cheek, tracing my jawline.
"Now come on," he said, grabbing my arm to pull me up.
I didn't bother arguing or pulling away this time. He led me up multiple flights of stairs and we eventually made it up to a conference room of sorts.
It was empty except for a small table with four chairs and a larger table filled with papers and files.
Dimitri pulled me into the room and pushed me down in one of the chairs. He tied my hands to the chair behind my back.
He pulled out the chair I was in and crouched in front of me.
"Why'd you do it? What did you expect?" he spoke low as he turned his head a bit.
"I just wanted to see what the group was like. Bad idea I guess," I shrugged my shoulders the best I could, considering the position I was in.
"Yeah? You want to see what it's like? It's not cute," he got closer to my face, "it's not a fun little group where we all type in a few passwords and get what we want. What we do isn't easy, the government fears us," he was now right in front of my face.
He put his hand on my thigh and stood up. Lifting his hand to cross his arms, "is that enough information for you?" he said sarcastically.
I looked up at him, his tall figure standing over me, a little too close.
"Why are you so mean? What did I ever do? So what, I wanted to know what a group I've looked up to my whole life was like? What's the big deal?"
"The big deal is," he paused to lift my head up to look at him, "it's that we're nothing to be looked up to. We've done things you couldn't even begin to imagine. Good and bad. You're lucky you haven't been killed yet, aren't you? I have every reason to slit your sorry throat right now, but I haven't."
I started to get scared, he was throwing around threats to kill me so easily. What if he did? Who would stop him?
I sat there, not knowing what to say in response, I averted my gaze from him.
"You're scared? You should be," suddenly another person with a mask bursted in, breathing heavily.
"Dimitri. They caught on," he said, frightened.
Dimitri's eyes widened and he rushed to untie me and grab my wrist. He walked, practically ran, down the hallway, me trying to keep up behind him.
"Fuck, I knew they'd catch on. God dammit," he spat out a string of cuss words before opening a door to a room full of computers.
He sat me down in a chair, not bothering to tie me in, "Don't move, I swear if you try anything, you'll be dead before you get out of this building," his voice was sharp and I knew he meant every word.
He typed furiously on the computer as I sat and watched. He held his gaze, focused on whatever he was doing.
"What's going on? Why are you so rushed?" he whipped his head around to look at me, almost as if he had forgotten I was there.
He turned back around, "nothing. Just a malfunction in the system."
"That man said someone had caught on, though. I mean, that sounds pretty bad to me," I thought for a second, "is it the government that apparently 'fears you'?"
"This is not the time for jokes Iris. If you really wanted to know, you'd be serious don't you think?"
"Sorry, I make jokes at inappropriate times."
"No, I'm sorry I'm just," he leaned forward and put his head in his hands, letting out a big sigh, "I'm just stressed. We were so close to exposing a group and they caught on last second because someone didn't secure it enough," he leaned back and ran his fingers through his hair.
Dimitri looked at me, tiredness in his eyes, it must've been almost morning by now, I was tired too.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you, I went too far. I'm just trying to do my job," he said apologetically.
"I understand, it happens, everyone goes a little too far when they kidnap someone," I chuckled and tried to hold back a yawn, but I failed.
"Oh shit. What time is it?" he checked the computer screen, "Damn. You must be exhausted. Follow me."
He grabbed my wrist, not as tight this time, to make sure I didn't run away, I assume.
We followed the long hallway until we reached a few doors, he took keys out of his pocket and opened one.
"This is your room. It's not much, but it'll do. It's connected to Enid's so don't get any ideas. I may make threats, but she'll carry through with hers. And the technology will prevent you from trying anything, so good luck. Everything you'll need is in there."
He turned back around and left, locking the door behind him.
I walked around, there was a small kitchen area, no decoration or colors, just plain. That went for the rest of the rooms too. The bathroom was boring, the bedroom was boring, even the few pictures hung up were boring. On top of all of that, it was small.
I went to the bedroom and looked inside the closet. There were a few items that looked about my size. How convenient. How long was this planned?
I grabbed an oversized shirt and a pair of shorts and headed towards the bathroom.
I checked the shower for any hidden cameras or anything that seemed suspicious. I found nothing thankfully.
I turned on the water to the hottest setting it would go to and took off the clothes I had worn all day, the ones I would've worn to my interview.
I stepped in the shower and thought about how different my life would've been if I had just ignored that video. I wondered if Eli was worrying about me. He would've been looking for me already.
I finished showering and stepped out, I grabbed the towel hanging up near the shower. I dried off and changed into the much more comfortable clothes.
A toothbrush sat in a package by the sink. I opened it and brushed my teeth, then brushed my hair after that.
Now that I was clean, and much more comfortable, I could finally sleep. I turned out the lights and went to bed, falling asleep soon after.
