I took my dusty pillows. Yea... they were not frequently washed as I had to do it on my own and had no time to do given so many school projects and other household chores to do. I managed to creep through my parents bedroom hallway and immediately sneaked in Fatima Aunty's room. The lights were off. It was pitch black.

A soft whisper "come my dear" came in the opposite direction. My hairs started standing and goosebumps started waking up just like when you watch a horror movie.

"Fatima Aunty? Where are you?", I whispered in the same direction. "Do you want me to ON the lights?".

SHHHHHH.... she whispered again. Why is she whispering I thought.

Suddenly, there was a bright light from a device, which I later found out to be her Nokia phone

Suddenly, there was a bright light from a device, which I later found out to be her Nokia phone. "Go talk to him" she whispered into my ears again from behind. How is she shifting from places so quickly in this dark room. Is supernatural being?

Wait...

Talk to who?

She dialed a number into the phone.

beep

beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep.

Although it was not on speaker, the ringing tone was super loud that it echoed around the room. "Maami, who are you calling at this time?" I had no idea what was going on.

She just shoved it into my hands and whispered rather loudly in her raspy voice "speak! he answered!".

"Hello?" with my softest voice that barely came out I let out the first word.

"Hey... Meeya..."

That voice...

That very voice...

That I had yearned to hear before I die...

For years...

"Farim?" just a reassurance.

"Yea... How have you been Meeya? I terribly miss you. Meeya? Are you there?"

I was lost for words. Tear trickled down my rosy cheeks. Is this real?

"Hello?" he repeated. "Is the connection okay? Do you want me to call again?" he added.

noooooo. Don't leave me again :(

"Hello... I'm here" holding onto the phone tightly I replied.

"I... I'm good Alhamdullilah... How are you?" I was still in shock that I was uttering some words to Farim... "Farim" the mere name that kept me alive? Disbelief.

"Meeya... my darling. You sound mature now! I am happy to hear my angels' voice. Hang in there! I am coming for you. Never a day went by without thin..."

Shit

I could hear my mom's room door opening.

I literally shoved the phone into my bra facing my skin so that the light can't shine through. And draped my black scarf around it.

Fatima Aunty immediately lied on her bed and I was pretending to adjust my pillows onto the adjustable bed below.

Creak... the old door opened. My peeped her face through the narrow opening to check on us. It felt as if she was sniffing for something. Like a zombie sniffing for blood.
