I couldn't watch. I was shaking all over, I had just completed a boulder problem and was currently watching others try it. The crowd was huge and the sudden irruption of applause as I had reached the top of the climb was deafening. At the moment I was in the lead but if someone else did the problem then they could overtake me. I had wanted to stand on the top of the podium at the nationals for almost 7 years now and the whole year of training had been in preparation for this competition. I wanted to win.

Standing as first place on podium was incredible, Jon Ellison, the leader of the climbers against cancer charity placed the medal around my neck and I just beamed with happiness.***********************************
The next day, I was sat at home, after a nail biting day at school, refreshing the GB team selection page filled with apprehension. The page refreshed for what must have been the 50th time but this time it showed the results. I got selected for the GB team for the next year! I screamed, the thought of being able to compete in the world championships for definite meant that I would be one step closer to my goal of becoming world champion!!! The 6 month training would start after Christmas and I couldn't wait.
