"That's all?" I frowned, clutching the paper I held in my hands.

"Don't underestimate him," Vincent laughed and tossed a dagger at me. I caught the knife and shoved it into my boots, where a knife guard was safely tucked inside.

I snorted and neatly slid the paper back into the file. I grabbed the flat brown A4 file and stood up, signalling I'd accept the job.

"Don't disappoint me," he stood up as well and gave me a sly grin, peeking out from above his sunglasses.

"When have I ever?" I smirked as I briskly walked away.

I ran my hand through my straight bangs, taking note that I should trim my hair. It's getting a little long after all.

As I walked down the light blue hallway, people who were walking and chatting immediately halted and lowered their voices to soft, inaudible whispers. I rolled my eyes and ignored them.

I joined the mafia when one of my dad's shady friends got custody of me after my family died. We were caught up in a villain fight that my father had decided he could take on, but after the villain fled my dad didn't realise that the villain would plan to attack his family. I was about four when I saw the villain brutally murder my entire family.

I didn't want to remember that day.

I'm a part of some underground business now where I find certain targets and make sure no one else does. After I dispose of them it's up to me if I want to keep their riches, but I never do. The mafia pays me well enough anyway. The only reason why I'm still doing this is to find someone.

"Get away!" I screamed as I dashed out of the house. I didn't know where to go. I didn't know where to run. I didn't even know if this was a nightmare because it was too real to be a dream and too scary to be reality.

I checked behind me and saw a pair of gleaming eyes tucked under the shadow of his hood, with his veiny arm gripping the knife. A shudder shot down my spine and I tripped on the rocky asphalt, grating my knees to shreds.

I couldn't stand up because of how much it hurt. I couldn't cry because I was so overwhelmed with fear I compeltely shut down. I just felt my soul leave my body and I lost all hope.

Just as the villain was about 3 feet away, a rock was hit his nose and a painful crack was heard. The villain stumbled backwards, crying out curses, his hand covering his nose.

When he looked back up, his eyes were full of murderous intent, even more than the blood that was steadily dripping from his nose.

I was shocked. There was hope. I didn't need to lose any.

I felt a pair of scrawny arms haul me up, and I winced in pain as the kid around my age supported me as we went into the bushes to hide.
