Alice

Beep...Beep...Beep.

I run my fingers through his dark hair for the thousandth time. It's two in the morning and I haven't slept a wink for three days.

Beep...Beep...Beep.

Nick has been here for 8 days, 2 hours, 43 minutes and as of now 7 seconds. Unconscious.

It's my fault.

Beep...Beep...Beep.

It's all my fault.

"I'm sorry." I whimper and lean back in the hospital chair that I moved next to his bed.

I watch as his hand with the IV in it twitches at the sound of my voice.

Tears form in my eyes once again and I need to rub my sore eyes to stop crying. My eyes are heavy and itchy from me crying for days upon days.

"I-I'm so sorry Nick. I love you so much." I say gently grabbing his hand. I stare at his unmoving face. Stubble has grown in and scars have faded but he's still hurt. Because of me. Because I made him go in there. Because of his stupid past with drugs I made him go in there.

"You've been through too much." I cry out leaning my head on the edge of his hospital bed.

I feel his hand twitch again and I gasp when he grips mine loosely.

"Nick please wake up I can't live without you," I whisper and place a lingering kiss to his cheek.

I watch his lips twitch in a small smile before going back to the resting frown that hasn't changed for so long.

I sigh and start running my fingers through his hair again.

The doctors told me his shot wound luckily wasn't fatal. But they also said he'd be awake in a few days... which was too long ago and he still hasn't woken up.

I hear a knock on the door and allow them in. I look up and see Kathy limping in with a cane and I'm quick to stand up and help her into the room.

"Kathy, why are you here?" I greet as she sits down.

"Logan wanted to see Nick." She says waving someone in.

I look down and see Logan peeking in through the doorway looking in. I smile softly at the small boy and wave him in.

I listen to his footsteps and he walks in holding a big flower bouquet.

"These are for Nicky," Logan says sadly dropping them on the bed carelessly as any other 7-year-old boy would do.

Kathy gives Logan a stern look as she pulls him onto her lap.

"How are you feeling Kathy," I ask arranging the white baby's breath in a clear vase by the window.

"Better dear thank you. Logan go sit by Nicholas I need to talk to Alice." She commands and with a sigh from Logan, he walks over to the hospital bed and talks to Nick even though he can't hear.

I watch them then reluctantly tear my eyes away from him and meet Kathy's cold grey ones.

"Alice dear. I'm coming here to offer you my place one last time. I don't know if you heard but Brodie is in rehab and Jessie is in therapy. They won't be home for a while." She explains placing her aged hand on mine.

I nod sadly remembering how Gen and Tracy told me the news.

"Yes, I've heard... and I'm truly sorry but after thinking it over, I'm going to have to deny your offer," I say sadly and hear a sigh from Kathy.
