"Jak, you're getting great points for the season. But, I heard a nasty rumor that someone's throwing big money around hiring top mercenary drivers to race. Whoever it is, they want to beat us badly." Rayn told Jak as I started getting ready for my race. It turned midnight just now and I wasn't excited to go at this. "Aiden, you might want to consider it too." Standing on the overhead of the track I sighed as I shook my head more so that I hate this.

"I hear these new drivers are getting bonuses for kills, and I'm sure that they wouldn't think twice about cheating to win." Ashelin turned around from the computer console. "Here comes a rather large specimen now." Making our heads turn to Razer and a bot?

"Well, well, if it isn't the rat and his mangy animal." He smiled.

"Oh, you're a riot!" Daxter retorted.

"Actually I was talking to Jak and Aiden, not a tick infected moron." He was smug. "Have you met Mizo's newest racer?" He gestured to the bot, coming up to Jak and myself and looming over. "This is UR-86, the deadliest driver on the planet—behind me of course. Hmm. '86 holds some of the top records for kills in a single event. Even I have to watch out for this one." Jak was finally getting some heat as well. '86 picked up Dacter in his claws to threaten him but Daxter was just trying to get some punches. "Oh, don't be shy, this bucket of bolts loves living things—so he can make them dead." He laughed at us '86 dropping Daxter on the floor. "Good luck out there."

They both walked away as we all just tensed up. "This racing thing has been going on for years, I don't think they want outsiders to win at all."

"You think?!" Daxter rubbed his butt. "The most we have for a victory is our own!"

Ashelin looked back at the car. "We can't be friendly on the track, but we can help one another out." She started putting in commands on the computer. "Aiden, I'll be careful out there. Reports are coming in and there's thirty dead for junior league."

"Thirty?" I was surprised. "Why am I just hearing about this?"

"It happened last night."

Something clicked in my head. "Jak, remember last night?" I got his attention. "Do you think they were trying to kill us?"

Jak's eyes lit up as we all came to the connection. "Then we need to watch our backs." He told everyone. "First cup for both of use ends today, so why wouldn't they want to kill the grand cup to stagger it?"

"Mizo doesn't want to kill them anywhere else but their track, but only five can win after Mizo's new rules." Then I looked up to everyone, finally thinking about one factor. "Wait, Keira!" I blurted out. "She's in the races too! She has the four am time slot!"

"Why didn't we know about it?" Ashelin crossed her arms.

"Samos would never want her to race, this is just a way to take it from all points." Jak figured, knowing how they would act. "Keira didn't have any trouble last night but it won't prevent her from being a future target. I'm thinking Aiden and I are high risk, high reward kills."

"Yeah, whatever's going on... we can't trust anyone but ourselves."
