hey, so this is the first one shot i ever write and i dont know how its gonna work out and stuff lol ( im gonna edit later so lol )

--------------------

I smile when I walk up the stairs, the smell of cigarettes filling my nose. When I reach the end of the first staircase I freeze. Wait, if I smell cigarettes that means someone had been here. Maybe they are still here. My breathing becomes uneven, I've never even thought of the possibility that someone could be coming here as well. It might be an abandoned building but the door opens quite easily if you push it hard enough. I comfort myself by telling myself no one is as crazy as I am and willing to climb 90 stairs in order to sit on a rooftop.

I've been coming to this place since the day I ran away from home when I was six. I was mad at my mum because she wouldn't let me my play with her old stuffed animal that was completely falling apart. That day I didn't climb the stairs all the way up to the rooftop though, I did that for the first time when I was 14 and just had my first kiss. I've never seen someone here so the possibility honestly hadn't even crossed my mind until then.

I shrug to myself and tell myself that even IF there was someone there, they probably would be gone already. I climb the remaining bit of the stairs until I reach the door to the top. I swing it open and make my way onto the rooftop. When my eyes have adjusted to the dark I freeze again. There is someone here. The person is sitting with their back against a random wall that is almost on the edge of the roof.  The only thing that I can see from where I'm standing is their head that sticks out above the wall. Not knowing who this person is and slightly terrified I turn around to go back down the stairs but the moment I do the door slams shut. I scream at the sound of the metal door slamming shut when I hear a laugh coming from behind me. I turn around to look at the person making fun of me and take a step back right away. His head is turned towards me now and a smile is covering his lips. The person however isn't scary at all, at least he doesn't look like it. His laugh gives him a friendly look and he seems to be about my age as well.

"What's so funny?" I ask, slightly annoyed. He is clearly making fun of me. He doesn't answer for a few seconds and just continues laughing. I roll my eyes and turn around again. I want to get away from this asshole as soon as I can.

"Why are you following me?" he asks, not answering my question. I already had my hand on the doorknob but something me makes me turn around. I let out a dry laugh, "following? Who do you think you are? I could be asking you the exact same thing."

"No you can't, I was here first." Amusement written all over his face, his eyes glinstering in the light coming from the building next to us. It seems like my instincts are completely taking over because without realizing what I am doing I make my way over to the wall and sit down next to him. My back pressed against the wall that is still warm from the sun that has been warming it up for the entire day. Without answering him I look up at the sky and see a million stars, I smile lightly. This is one of the reasons why I love this place.

"Are you gonna answer or what?" He snaps me out of my trance and I look at him. His blue eyes taking me by surprise. They are full of life and amusement, but I can tell from the way his eyebrows are furrowed that I have successfully annoyed him now. I can't help but notice how good looking he is. His hair is pushed up into a small quiff and he is wearing a brown blouse I really like.

"Why are you here?" He asks, it seems he gave up his 'you-are-following-me-theory'. I contemplate whether to give him a witty comeback or to just answer honestly and then decide on the latter, "just escaping from the city and getting some rest, I guess" I smile lightly at him.

"But why here?" He asks, clearly as confused as I am that someone else is on this rooftop.

"Well you are here as well, aren't you? I can only hope you agree this is the best place in the city at this time of day, when it is still slightly warm but it's dark out and busy in the streets." He probably didn't want to let me see that he was slightly scared as well but at this I see him relax slightly. "But to be honest, I have never seen anyone here before and I've been coming here since I was fourteen."
