I was sitting at the bus stop and fiddling with my feet as I looked down.
My eyes felt tired, as if I were previously crying. I wasn't. I was tired without a doubt. The bus was going to arrive within 10 minutes from now.
I felt hesitant. I wanted to turn back. I didn't. I was only a couple of months from being a legal adult. My mother couldn't control me. At least, not anymore.
I look at my phone. Checking for notifications.
I needed some sort of distraction.
I plug in my headphones into my phone. I go on Spotify and go to my favourite playlist "Happy Smiles" it was called.
I shuffle the playlist and the first song to come up was, 'Somewhere only we know' by Keane.
"I like this." I whisper. "A distraction."
After that song is over, the next one to come on is "Wonderwall" by Oasis, then "Under The Bridge." By Red hot chili peppers, then "TLC" and then "Waterfalls."
After a couple more songs are played, the bus finally comes.
I can tell it's mostly empty.
The bus driver opens the door. He stares down at me as I enter the bus.
"Hey." I said softly.
"Hello, Lil' Lady." He says. He actually seems quite nice, especially for an old man driving a bus at three A.M.
He slips a smile at me and I give him one as well, a faint one, but still a smile.
I looked out the window.
The raindrops were hitting the window, I thought it made quiet a peaceful sound.
I looked at the window and watched the raindrops race each other.
I was listening to music and doing my best not to fall asleep.
I wanted to go somewhere the felt right. Somewhere, we're I'd feel free to do whatever.
I'd be able to scream and be happy.
I wanted somewhere, where no one would complain.
Everyone was happy.
Most importantly,
I was happy.~Time Skip~
The next stop had finally come.
"Will you be getting off, Lil' Missy?" The bus driver asks.
I look out the window.
Nothing felt right about where we were.
I shake my head.
He nods at me and smiles.
"I don't have all night." He says as he stares at the bus door.
I figured he was talking to me.
I should get off, get on the bus tomorrow.
I stand up but then I see a tall, pale, boy with brown hair.
"Sorry for the hold up." The boy says.
The boy walks to the back of the bus with his possibly three or four bags.
God, his back must be aching.
He walks to the back.
He places all his bags on the overhead bin, and one under his seat.
I notice he's also holding a small camera.
He sits next to me, two seats away, next to the other window seat.
I find it sort of weird. The fact that there were multiple other options of where to sit, yet he chose the back. Where I was sitting.
He looks out the window and holds his camera, I assume filming.
"Hey." He says as he faces me, slightly chuckling.
I nod at him with a smile.
"Not much of a talker, huh?" He adds.
I shake my head, chuckling a bit.
He smiles, he reaches for under his bag, under his seat, as he bends down.
"What's with all the luggage?" I asked.
"Ohh, you speak!" He says sarcastically. "I thought you were a real life Ariel." HES still holding the camera, filming.
It was obviously some joke related to the fact that my hair was red.
"Haha." I said.
"This bag is just my camera equipment." He answers.
"The fact that you need a whole bag just for camera equipment says a lot." I said.
He chuckles a little bit.
"What does it say?" He asked.
"You're spoiled." I joke.
"Fair enough." He says laughing.
I didn't often get along with people like that, but it was different with this boy. I actually wanted to talk to him.
"Why do you need the equipment?" I asked.
"I'm doing this sort of, student film." He says.
"Huh?" I said.
He chuckles.
"It's for a school project, I'm studying trying to be a director and film making, that sort of stuff." He explained.
"Interesting, what's it about?" I asked.
"It's sort of a documentary, I guess." He explained. "I'm hitchhiking around the U.S." he says.
"This doesn't seem like hitch hiking to me." I said.
He chuckled a little more.
"Yeah, I was thinking about, starting off easy the first night." He explained.
"Why start at 3 A.M.?" I asked.
"All great adventures start at 3 A.M." he answered. "You get to meet the best people." He says as he stares me in the eye and smiles.
"I guess you're right." I said, chuckling a little bit.
"What's your story?" He asked.
"Pardon?" I asked.
"Why are you here?" He asked "Where are you going?".
"Nowhere." I answered. "I don't come from a good family, I'm an adult and I already graduated, I've got nowhere to go, nothing to look for so yeah I'm basically just travelling until I find a place that sticks.".
"You've got nowhere to go?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Y'know, I could afford to take someone else with me on this trip." He said.
"What?" I asked.
"You could come if you want, I'm spending the night in a hotel, today, and the trip isn't that expensive." He said.
"You're inviting me to go with you?" I asked.
"I am." He said.
I scoffed.
"Y'know, the whole point of this trip was to do interesting things and meet interesting people." He said. "I wouldn't mind if one of them stuck."
I scoff once again, it came out as more of a singular chuckle.
"What?" He says laughing.
"I don't even know you're name and you're asking me to hitchhike around the whole country with you?" I asked, chuckling a little bit.
"Yeah, I guess I am." He said.
"That's insane." I said.
"Is it, though?" He asked. "I mean, I don't know you're name, but I feel like I know so much about you and you don't have anywhere to go."
That was very much true.
I had never gotten along like that with anyone, besides him.
"You know what?" He said.
"What?" I asked.
"You're right you don't know my name." He said.
I nod.
He turns to me and holds out his hand for me to shake.
"Hey, I'm Finn Wolfhard, And Im asking you to hitchhike around the country with me." Finn said.
I thought about it for a moment.
He was still holding his hand out.
I slap his hand with mine and shake it.
"I'm Sadie Sink." I said. "And I'll be joining you in hitch hiking around the country with you." I said.
He smiles and so do I.
