"God, Finn, it's nearly two a.m.." I whined.
"There's no cars near us, how are we supposed to hitchhike?" Finn said, as he grabbed my upper arm muscle and pulled me against his side and pointed around.
"There's Nothing around us!" I yell.
"Yeah, no shit." Finn said while scrunching his nose in a sarcastic way.
"So, we just gonna walk until we pass out and some animals eat us?" I ask.
"Ohh, Yeah, I forgot, I'm trying to murder you." Finn said.
"If you're gonna kill me, kill me now, while I'm weak and tired." I said.
"Ahh, thanks for the pointer." Finn said and sarcastically claps.
Finn suddenly stops walking, he places his camera right in front of where he's standing. I barely notice as my vision is blurry since I've been awake for a countless amount of hours.
"Why'd you stop walking?" I asked.
"I have a tent in my duffel bag, I forgot about it." Finn said, as he opens the duffel bag and grabs all the materials to set it up.
"Ohhh, I just assumed you kept all your dead bodies in there." I said.
"Ha. Ha." Finn 'laughs'.
"Do you have two sleeping bags?" I asked.
"Yeah, a friend of mine was supposed to come, she bailed on me." Finn explains.
"She?" I ask, as I raise an eyebrow.
"Sheesh, don't be jealous, you're still the prettiest girl I've met." Finn said in a cocky way.
"No, I'm not jealous!" I assured.
"Mhm." Finn disagreed.
I roll my eyes, in a clearly visible way.
He kneels down onto the dry grass and starts to set up the tent.
"You never told me another girl was supposed to come." I said. "That's all."
Finn ignores me and proceeds to set up the tent.
"Are you gonna explain anything or—?" I asked.
"She ghosted me." Finn said as he stood up and faced me, in a dead serious way.
"What?" I asked. "Why?"
"Before I got onto the bus I was on a phone call with her, she said I just wasn't good enough for her and that this plan wasn't foolproof and that she didn't trust the plan... or me." Finn explained. "Only person I ever trusted, didn't even trust me."
"You can trust me." I said.
"I know I can." Finn said as he turned back to the tent and nearly finished it.
"After all, you don't have friends who would you tell my secrets to?" Finn asked.
I loudly scoffed.
"Well, when you're rich and famous and we're both getting interviewed." I said. "I could just spill all the beans."
Finn looked at me.
"You know what, I admire your faith in me." Finn said.
"I admire how friendless you think I am." I said.
"Do you have any friends though?" Finn asked.
"Touché." I said.
"When you were on the bus you looked— ugh, lonely." Finn said.
"I'm not lonely, I'm alone." I corrected.
"The difference?" Finn asks.
"I'm alone, doesn't mean I feel bad about myself." I said. "I've always just hung out by myself."
"Sounds depressing." He said.
"Well, in the rich side of our town, people are sorta likeable, spoiled but likeable." I said.
"How would you know that?" Finn asked.
"I met you, that's enough." I said.
Finn stands up.
"The tents ready we just have to somehow, fit our bags in there, and ourselves." Finn said.
I carried the (extremely) heavy bags into the tent.
As Finn said it was 'enough' that he had to set up the tent, he did help with some things.
I sat down on the incredibly crowded tent on top of the sleeping bag.
Finn was holding his camera, as usual.
"I forgot you had that." I said.
"Had what?" Finn asked.
"The camera." I answered. "Does it ever die?"
Finn shook his head.
"Now that I'm on the bed, I'm suddenly not tired." Finn said.
"Yeah, same." I agreed.
"We could listen to some music." I suggested.
Finn grabbed his phone and opened up 'Spotify' and shuffled his playlist.
First song to come up: 'New Light' by John Mayer.
"Do you like this song?" Finn asked, in an almost sympathetic way.
I nodded my head.
I wasn't as tired as before but my eyelids were still heavy, and my mind wasn't working.
"Finn, tell me more about you." I said.
"Third of December, my friend said that he wanted to hitchhike across the U.S., gave me the idea, I've been planning this ever since." Finn explained.
"Huh, that's funny, this took me two days to plan." I said.
"What were you gonna do?" Finn asked. "Y'know, before I asked you to tag along."
I honestly wasn't even sure.
"I was planning on just going to a city, where nothing mattered, and just going to a motel there, finding a job and just sticking with it." I explained.
"What job?" Finn asked.
"I wanted to be a writer." I said.
"Interesting." Finn said. "Why?"
"You ask a lot of questions." I said.
"Just answer it!" Finn chuckled.
"The real worlds just so shitty, and when I write I get a break from the motherfucker we call reality." I said.
"As the world caves in." Finn said.
"What?" I asked.
"It reminds me of a song, 'As the world caves in', you write and pretend everything's happy, as the world caves in." Finn explained.
"That's a good way to put it." I said as I slightly tilted my head and smiled. "Same thing with directing, unless it's a documentary." I compared.
"I guess, it is." Finn said.
Finn smirked.
"Hey, will you be with me?" Finn asked.
"What?" I chuckled.
"When the world caves in, well you be there for me?" Finn asked.
"Yeah, I promise." I said.
"It's a deal."
"It's the chorus!" Finn yelled, breaking us from the deep and awkward conversation.
"Ooh I wanna take two!" Finn sung.
I laughed.
"Join me!" Finn said.
"I wanna break through, I wanna know everything about you, so I can see you in the moonlight!" We loudly sang, off key, but we were having fun.
We sung and danced (mostly shimmied) to songs and laughed.
Before I knew it, I was asleep.
