I woke early in the morning and got dressed and ready as fast as I could. I ate my morning cheerios with sugar and yawned the entire way through. 7:00am was much earlier than I wanted to wake up, but my new class began in less than an hour and I already live 20 minutes away from the school, so I had to get up a lot earlier than usual..
"Morning." my mother yawned as she came tiredly down the stairs in her pink robe and white bunny slippers. Her hair was in a mess, and I smiled at her exhausted looking face.
"Morning." I replied, and took the empty bowl to the sink and turned on the tap so silvery cool water ran into the bowl. I looked at my watch and yawned again "I have to go, I'll see you after school." I kissed her on the cheek briefly before grabbing my backpack, and headed quickly out the door, the cold air of New York city hitting me in the face like a hefty slap as I made my way down the sidewalk to get to the Subway. The normal city noises filled my ears and made a smile appear on my face. I loved the normality that this city gave me, I always had a routine for everything and it was somehow comforting to me.
I ventured down the stairs in the sidewalk to the subway and climbed quickly aboard train that just arrived in the tunnel. I sat in one of the cold silvery chairs next to no one, and as the train left the station my eye lids began to grow heavy with my early morning tiredness. I sighed once more, and slowly let my eyelids fall.
. . .
I burst through the doors of the large college classroom with my backpack falling off my shoulders . "Hi, sorry I'm late." I said quickly as I came down the stairs in the small lecture hall. I had slept too much on the subway and got off at the wrong stop. It was of course already 6:55, so I had to catch a taxi that had a driver who hardly spoke English and drove 3 miles and hour down the street, even though I asked him to speed up numerous times.
"It's fine, Ms...." the Professor checked a piece of paper on his desk, and the looked up at me through his circular glasses. I scanned the classroom, and saw it was almost full with people I didn't know. "Winters."
I nodded, and someone turned around to look at me. It was the one and only Peter Parker, and I swear my heart skipped a beat. "Harlow Winters, sir. And I had a really awful morning. It won't happen again, I promise."
"Yes of course, now you can take a seat next to Mr. Parker." He looked around the classroom with a dull look on his face "Mr. Parker, raise your hand please."
Peter smiled at me, and raised his hand. I smiled brightly back, and made my way slowly down the wooden steps that led to all of the seats. I sat gingerly next to him, and the Professor continued to drone on and on about some biology thing I learned in the class I was taking before this. I tried my hardest to pay attention to the board and not to Peter who was looking especially handsome today.
I felt him lean over, and his warm presence heated me up. "I didn't know you go here." he whispered lightly, and the Professor gave no notice to him.
"Yeah, I've been taking my classes on the other side of the campus mostly so I guess I haven't seen you around at all." I answered back as quietly as I could, all the while reaching into my bag and pulling out a notebook I could take notes in.
"Yeah, I uh...that makes sense actually..." he stifled his last words with a chuckle, and I couldn't help but blush "Are you uh, doing anything, y'know after school with anyone today, you know we could..." Peters face turned red, and he nervously stroked the back of his head "Or not, I mean we could always-"
I giggled, and rubbed the back of my head "Well I'm playing at the coffee house at 3, but other than that I'm free." I scribbled down a couple of sentences of notes while trying to keep my face from turning red with blush
"Great, great." Peter smiled brightly, his cheeks still a tinge of pink "Want to have a cup of coffee after you play or something?" I found it very cute the way he was so nervous.
"Something would be great," I smiled back at him, and my heart fluttered with excitement "And I think I can skip playing today, It's not like I get much money from it anyways." I shrugged, and was quieted by the girl in front of me.
"If you need the money than don't let me stop you from playing." Peter said quickly, still whispering.
"No it's fine, I will do a double shift tomorrow. I could use something good to eat. I'm sorry if I can't pay anything, I will try and scrape up some change from my purse-"
"Hey, I'm supposed to pay for the food." Peter lightly set his hand on mine and the butterflies in my stomach started to flutter non-stop.
"Thanks Peter." I smiled as my cheeks turned pink with a nervous rouge.
"Ms. Winters, Mr. Parker, please pay attention!" The Professor scolded, and we both snapped our heads toward him immediately.
"Yes Professor." we both said at the same time, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Peter clench his fist together and mutter "Yes!" as quietly as he could.
