His arrival was sudden, quick, unexpected.
Though it was anticipated, no one expected it to be in the middle of the night. There was no reason for it. Years ago, vampires had adapted a way to survive the sunlight, but - at the cost of their abilities. Their strength was dramatically weakened during sunrise, but even with that, they were still more than able to contest most humans. Especially now that humanities numbers had dwindled, becoming a tiny fraction of what it once was, one day long ago.
Whatever the reason, his welcome wagon was quick to awaken me. Probably waking up most of the neighborhood, in fact.
I groaned, my eyelids slowly beginning to flicker open, my brows furrowed - adjusting to the darkness. "Seriously?" I mumbled, my groggy sights settling on my alarm clock, reading the time - I let out an exaggerated sigh.
"Our precious King arrives at 4 AM. How lovely."
The sarcasm in my voice was obvious, painfully so. And just as I was about to get up from bed, my room door was swung open. Maria came flying, huffing and puffing - I was pretty sure she woke up and immediately ran into my room, probably dying of excitement.
"Sakkara! Levantate! He's here!" She puffed, taking large steps towards my bed, Maria began to pull back the covers - tossing them to the ground. "Get dressed and ready, you have to look your best for the King!" Said my caretaker, only to then start searching throughout my closet. No doubt thinking that my taste would be unreliable. "Have you already picked something out? You know it's not good to wait last minute, Chiquita!"
"I know, Maria." I answered, my expression deadpan, I was completely done with her. "I went over to Hope's place, remember? She helped me pick some stuff out. Now, can you please get out? I have to get ready." I said, rolling my eyes, I began to stand up - shooing away Maria.
"I'll be out in twenty, just... wait for me outside, alright?" I continued, successfully leading Maria away - I quickly shut the door. Making sure to lock it this time.
"All this for a stupid King that probably just wants to eat us all anyways," I mumbled - searching to find that little black dress.
It was no surprise that I was salty. It was four in the morning, the sun hadn't even arisen yet, and already I had to get prepared. It was all so exhausting, I felt as if it were useless. For no point.
I had to suck up such feelings though, because I knew that if I hadn't at least greeted the King, Maria would have my head.
Maybe it was just the lack of sleep talking, or maybe I just felt tired of it all. But, as of right now - the past excitement I held for this event, was gone. Completely vanished, just like my sleep schedule.
I changed my clothes, putting on Hope's dress - I settled it upon my body, it began molding against my subtle curves. Walking towards the mirror, I finally pulled my hair back from that ridiculously tight bun - feeling the soft sting of my scalp as the locks finally broke free. My hair was still extremely knotted up though, probably even worse than it was before.
I sighed, grabbing a detangling spray, I greedily soaked it upon my mane - releasing several groans as I painfully began to comb out the mess, repressing lots of screams.
I was very tender-headed.And after what seemed to be hours, I was finally done... with that, at least.
Using a hair blower I began to dry out some of the damper areas, leaving my locks silky and smooth, straight and shiny.
