Chapter six
Hermiones Pov
No one came to check on me. I really screwed up. My first ever meal with my new family and I couldn't even make it through the first course. Its 9pm now and I know the meal is over as I heard Blaise and Draco come upstairs and go into their rooms.
I turn off the light and try and go to sleep.
I turn over once, then again and again. I groan frustrated. My brain refuses to shut off and I cannot sleep. I sigh frustrated and roll over to check the time of the clock. 9:20pm.
Right, screw sleep. I take my silk robe off the back of the door and wrap it around my shoulders. Once securing it in the middle I leave my room to make my way down to Mother and Fathers study.
The halls were dark now, faint candlelight keeping them light enough to see a metre ahead of you but that's it.
I stop outside of the study. I notice strong light streaming underneath the crack of the door, signifying they are awake.
I inhale deeply then knock on the door.
'Come in.' Came the voice of my father. I open the door and walk inside and without meeting there gaze I close the doors behind me. Gathering any Gryffindor courage I had left I begin speaking.
'I am so sorry for leaving early, I didn't mean to ruin the dinner. It was very kind of you too-'
Father cuts in. 'We understand Hermione, there is a lot on your plate at the moment.' I dare a glance up towards my parents and they didn't seem angry. 'Come, sit.' Father motions towards the seat in front of him and I hesitantly sit down.
'However leaving the dinner early is frowned upon in pureblood culture. Your father and I understand you may have some holes in your knowledge as you weren't raised from us, so I have found the book I learnt from myself all those years ago.' Mother says and passes me The 100 Rules Of A Pureblood Lady.
I take it curiously and set it into my lap. At least if I can't sleep I have something to read.
'That being said dear, the ball needs to happen. How else am I supposed to introduce you into society if not by the greatest means possible?' She finishes.
'I understand.' I say. I do understand, it's just I don't quite agree. However voicing my opinion will probably only cause an argument and it wouldn't change anything anyway.
'Meaning it would be best to send a letter of some sort to your...friends.' Father says and I nod again.
A silence passes between us, I am not quite ready to go back to bed yet.
'We will discuss the ball tomorrow Hermione. How about you call Frankie and she can make you some hot chocolate and a snack so you can write?' Mother says. I nod again and say my thank you.
Closing the study door behind me, for the second time that day I have a lot to think about.
'Frankie!' I call as I sit on my bed and my house elf appears.
'What can Frankie do for mistress?' She says and I give her a soft smile.
'Is it possible to have a cup of hot chocolate and maybe a snack?' I ask and Frankie bobs her head.
'Of course Mistress.' Was the reply and she disappeared in a pop.
I open the book that Mother gave me and I don't even reach the 4th line when I hear a knock on the door.
