I've been best friends with Syd since the second grade. Out of all of the middle school shows I've seen best friends more often than not stop being friends when they go into middle school. I thought that would never happen to me and Syd though because we go to a small town school where there aren't many kids to replace me with. I guess I was wrong. I walked into school the first day and found my classroom everyone in my class was already sitting down.
I walked in and sat beside Syd with Audrey sitting nearby. Our teacher (who also happens to be the librarian), Mrs. Anderson took attendance and then dismissed those of who were in band to go. We left the classroom and walked through the hallway to the music room. It was locked and Ms. Peters was no where in sight. We decided to wait for Ms. Peters and a couple minutes later she came running up apologizing about being late. (Apparently she was getting coffee in the office)
She unlocked the door and let us in. She quickly told us how band was going to work and helped us set up our instruments. Simon with a saxophone, Syd with a flute, Marina with a flute (she played clarinet last year but decided to change it up this year), Evan with a trumpet, Audrey with a trumpet, Alex with a baritone, Daden with a trombone, and me with percussion (at the time being I have a bells set and a snare drum set up). We learned our warm-ups and then the bell rang.
We went to our math class (which is with Mr. Barnard). It was quite uneventful and the time went by slowly but he informed us that the seats he put us in would be our seats for the rest of the year. Syd was behind me and Audrey was to my right. I was ok with the seating arrangement because I could talk to Syd.
Eventually, after what felt like hours the bell rang and we all ran to the gym for our 13 minute 'brain break' (I just call it recess) we played basketball until the bell rang again and then we went to English which we have with our homeroom teacher Ms. Stromgren. She spent the whole period explaining her class rules.
The bell rang and we all ran to lunch. I made my way to the lunch line and got my food quickly because I was starving. I went and sat next to Syd. I looked around the table and realized that I had unintentionally say with the popular kids. I am not popular. Why am I sitting at the popular table you might ask? She was friends with one of the most popular girls in school who's name is Carley. She sat by Carley and I sat by her.
It was a VERY uncomfortable lunch because I didn't know how to act with the popular kids. Lunch eventually ended and I wanted to scream hallelujah because that had been an awkward lunch. I made my way back to Ms. Stromgren's room for advisory. I watched 5 minute crafts the whole 30 minutes because I had no homework and I can assure you that channel is one of the best time wasters out there.
Advisory ended and we got ready for science/social studies. She explained to us that instead of switching subjects everday we would do the whole unit and then we would switch to the other subject. After that we basically just talked they rest of the class period. The bell finally rung and we practically ran out of the classroom.
Most of us had choir for our next class so we headed over there. Ms. Peters was already there when we entered and she explained to us that we would be working on learning songs for our winter concert after about a month but until then we would just be having fun learning new songs in choir. We sang our hearts out until it was time for our last class of the day: Genius Hour.
*flashback in time by a couple weeks*
My dad turned to me saying, "you'll be in genius hour this year. do you know what that is about?" Just then the principal, Mr. Hes,
walked by. He had obviously heard what my dad said because he looked at me and exclaimed, " because she's practically a genius that's why!" And then he walked away.*temporary switch to third person*
This might have seemed weird to anyone else but by now Eliza was used to it. In second grade when she transferred to the elementary school she was put into an enrichment class with 2 of her classmates (Daden being one of them).
