Every little kind deed counts

Saturday. Mom wakes me up at 8 o'clock.

"Natasha! Wake up!! You've to go to CC!"

"Mom! It's 8:00. I thought our shift is from 4:00 to 6:00?"

"Yeah. But it's first day. Ellen always gives speeches and does interesting stuffs on first day."

"You're kidding me, right? Mom, I am going to give away good hours of my life without any wages, not to mention willingly and you're now telling  me that's not enough? I've to go to listen to her speeches? Mom! I'm joining a voluntary organization, not military!"

"Do what you want. If Ellen's not signing the recommendation paper, then that would not be my headache. "

"And that's not a proper way to talk to your mother. Surely I've taught you some etiquettes." She says before finally closing the door behind her.

Gosh. Mom has the superficial ability to convince people. Within a couple of minutes, I wash my teeth, face, change my dress ,comb my hair and go downstairs to have breakfast.

Sure, Alisha is there already. She is actually the queen of the upper world,to tell you the truth. She has no visible errors,no flaws and no faults. How she manages to stay intact like that I often wonder. It must be quite stressful.

Dad peeks at me through his horn rimmed glasses. "Hello Young Lady," he says.

"Hi dad."

He put aside the New York Times and faces me.

"What is the ideal time for waking up?" He asks in a calm tone.

My Dad's like that. He could ask the most dangerous criminal in the world questions in his calm tone and yet the criminal would bath in his own sweat before confessing his crime in five minutes.

Maybe that's why Dad is a really famous detective. Even the  President knows him.

"Sorry ,Dad. Won't happen again."

"I don't want that you don't do it again. I want you to acknowledge your fault."

"I'm sorry to wake up late."

"That was not your fault. Your fault is, thinking that doing voluntary work is a waste of time."

"It is not?"

"Well,if you work for little organizations, you wouldn't understand the impact immediately. Of course, they too are helping us greatly everyday, but without proper budget and direction, they fail to find the right purpose after some time, making their workers feel like they are worthless. "

"Are you in any way, belittling Quontin? " Alisha asked. She's a good girl and all,but can't tolerate talking ill about anything, especially something that is someway related to her.

"I'm not belittling anything dear. I'm talking about facts. Quontin was a great initiative . Taking care of the street animals. But like I've said, over the years, they failed to maintain their standard. They don't have a good communication and co-ordination among themselves and those who work there don't see any real progress. That's why your sister, Natasha, thinks volunteering is a waste of time. I say work for greater organizations where you can see the progress firsthand and observe your work's effect on international level."

"There's nothing wrong in working for a little organization. Just say Community Care would look good on resume and Quontin would not." Alisha responds.

"If you wish to work for Quontin,I will not forbid you." Dad said.

"That's not the point, dad. The whole point of volunteering is helping people and our society. Then why we are helping those who don't need our help instead of those who need them?"
