after a long and peaceful sleep, i finally wake up, only to discover that i forgot about school.

holy shît. i have school today.

i check the time on my phone.
7:06 a.m.

school starts at 8:00. goddamnit ashton.

i immediately get out of my warm bed, and make my way to the closet to pick out something to wear.

how could i possibly forget about this?

i pick out a pair of black ripped skinny jeans, a short-sleeved Ramones™️ shirt, and some black high top converse.
my hair is a complete mess, but i don't have enough time to do something with it.
with every step i take, i realize that i'm making so much noise, i could wake up luke.

shït, luke. what am i supposed to do with him? i can't bring him with me, he'd be too distracting. but i don't wanna leave him here alone.

i finally resort to just writing him a note, telling him that i would be at school, and that i would be back home before he knows it.

hey lukey,

i forgot that i have to go to school today. school ends at 3:30, and i'll be home by 3:45. please don't worry, i'll be back soon before you know it.

i tape the messy note to the door of my room and make my way to the kitchen. i grab a banana, a granola bar, and a bottled smoothie.

seconds later, i'm already out the door. i rush to the car and set my stuff down, and finally hurry off to school.

luckily, i get to class one minute ahead of time.
i feel an arm bump against mine, and then i make eye contact with my best friends, michael and calum.
"ashton!" calum exclaims, pulling me into a hug
"it's way too early for this," i say laughing
"yo, i heard we have a sub for this class, thank god. i'm not doing work," michael announces, laughing
"oh god, me neither,"

the three of us reluctantly enter the classroom and take our usual seats at the table in the back next to the crooked posters.

"it's too early for this," calum groans
"i would ditch but my mum would get really mad and i need to earn my college credits," michael murmurs to himself
"god, you're such a nerd mike," calum teases
i let out a laugh, completely forgetting that we're in class. the sub and i make quick eye contact, and i mentally curse myself.

just shut up ashton, jesus.

"that would've been really funny if you got caught," calum laughs next to me
"shut up!" i mock, giving calum and annoyed face
the class goes by so slowly. every time i look at the clock, it feels like the time goes by extra slowly. i pull out my phone to check my texts to see if luke has messaged me yet.

nope, nothing. maybe he's not up yet, or maybe he thinks i'm still home and he just can't find me...

i catch myself panicking at the thought and try to concentrate on something else.

he needs me right now, i can't be at school.

but school is important ash, you need to finish your education.

then suddenly, my phone vibrates, making me jolt in my seat.
"you alright, mate?" calum asks
"y-yeah, i'm all good," i lie
i look down at my phone and see a text from luke.

luke :);

ashton where are you? please come back, i can't be alone. please, i need you home. i can't be alone here. please come back.

hi angel boy, i'm so sorry i forgot to tell you about school. i'm almost done with my first class, i have two more after this. read the note i left for you on the door. i'll be back before you know it. don't be afraid.
