SKDJSKDJ THEY LOOK LIKE TWINS
ANYWAYS, VOTE AND COMMENT

ashton;

"we're what?!" luke asks, stunned.
"we're going to paris," i repeat with a chuckle
"no!" he whispers, a look of disbelief blooms on his teary face. his hands gently cup over his mouth, hiding a big bright smile.
"surprise!" i mutter, looking into his teary eyes
"no way," he whispers, not taking his eyes off of mine.
tears emerge in his eyes, but i know they're not sad tears this time. instead, very happy ones. his soft fingers overlap mine and he grabs my hands and holds them in his. pure excitement courses through my veins while watching the giddy boy in front of me.
"thank you ashton," he smiles, a few more tears run down his pale skin.

A FEW DAYS LATER AT THE AIRPORT;

the two of us are surrounded by swarms of people in the airport. luke trudges slowly behind me, pulling his tiny suitcase.
"grab my hand luke, i don't want us to get separated," i say, looking back at him.
he shuffles uncomfortably while watching the bustling crowds around him.

he doesn't like these big crowds.

"luke, it's alright. ashton's here." i coo, tightening my grip around his clammy hand.
soon, we make it to security.

"what's security?" luke inquires, his hand in mine, the other in his mouth biting off his soon-to-be-gone fingernails.
"airports have security for safety measures. they go through our bags to keep everyone safe, but don't worry, they're not going to touch you,"
his tired eyes scan the building while he bites his nails, unsure of the atmosphere around him. before we know it, we're at the front of the line greeted by a lovely security officer.
luke avoids eye contact, cowering behind me while she checks our passports.
"alright you're good to go," she announces, handing them back with a smile
"thank you so much," i smile, pulling luke alongside me.

once the two of us make it through security, we head to our gate and easily find seats. his anxiety lessens while his mind is fixated on coloring. holding his hand, i ruminate about all of the sightseeing i planned for our trip. my mind focuses again and concentrates on luke. he pays no attention to the hectic environment around him, instead enthralling on coloring the animals on his loose-leaf paper. the sun shines through the window and illuminates his plump glowing skin perfectly.

as the day goes on, luke's anticipation grows. his anxiety increases. his eyes dart back and forth to different people walking by. his mind is transported to what seems like a different universe. periodically, his grip tightens on my hand while he's tangled in his own brain, unconscious of his own body.

"are we really going to get on a plane?" he worries, gazing at me, an uneasy tone prominent in his words.
"yes luke, we can't drive from sydney to paris," i joke, running my hand on his trembling thighs.
"how long is the flight going to be?" he probes, going through the stack of coloring sheets in his lap.
"about 20 hours, more or less,"
his eyes meet mine and his jaw drops to the floor. his chest rises and falls rapidly, contemplating our departure that would happen soon. sweat covers every inch of his body in a matter of minutes.

he's really nervous about this....

DEPARTURE TO PARIS, FRANCE:

"gate 23, flight to paris, france. we are now boarding section b,"
i begin to assemble my luggage and pull together luke's bags. i look beside me and find him sound-asleep. i shake his shoulders, and remind him "we're leaving now,"
he slowly rises, stretching out his long limbs before hesitantly grabbing his suitcase.
"let's go!" i blurt with a smile, motioning him to the small line of travelers in the "b" group.

"ashton, i don't know if i can do this," he admits softly, looking down at his feet.
"luke, i promise you, you're gonna be perfectly fine. we're going to have so much fun,"

once we make it to the front of the line, i go ahead of him to teach him what to do. i hand my ticket to the worn-out crew member at the register. she takes the ticket, scans it, then hands it back to me. luke follows and does the same procedure.
"thank you," we both say in unison.
the woman flashes a faint smile and the two of us walk down the tunnel.
i turn to see luke breathing heavily with tears forming in his eyes that are threatening to spill.
"aww, luke, don't cry. you're safe with me," i remind him, giving him a quick squeeze.
he nods, and his breaths slow down shortly. a flight attendant awaits the plane just a few steps away.
