"There you go." [Y/N] flashed a smile as she finished tending Naib's wounds.
"Thanks," Naib said quietly while [Y/N] pulled him up. He wrapped his hand around [Y/N]'s shoulders and patted her head.
Naib Subedar wasn't an expressive person. Even after Naib and [Y/N] had decided to call their relationship as 'lovers', he rarely showed his feelings directly. His 'I love you's were usually changed into 'I'll be right behind you', 'You go first', or 'We'll be fine'.
The only physical affection [Y/N] would get was usually this... quick embracing and patting gesture. Naib often did it when [Y/N] helped him in a match or when they're alone. It was cute, [Y/N] could see Naib's ear redden every time.
[Y/N] couldn't enjoy that cute gesture at the moment though. Before she knew it, Naib had already pulled away and beckoned her to run towards a nearby cipher machine.
It was [Y/N]'s first match against the Photographer, Joseph Desaulnier. Though apparently he's more than sixty years old, his skill was deadly. He's also drop-dead gorgeous. But, that's not important.
[Y/N] accidentally ran into Joseph after finishing a cipher with Naib. The two of them went to the opposite direction from the Hunter right away. But, Joseph just wouldn't give up on chasing [Y/N] [L/N]. It was almost as if Joseph was desperate to kill her.
Why? Because she seemed to be the weakest? That sounded possible. The other three survivors were Naib the Mercenary, William the Forward, and Norton the Prospector. Even [Y/N] would target herself first if she were the Hunter.
Or was it because Joseph heard [Y/N] mumbling under her breath when she saw him for the first time? What did she say again? 'Oh, he's short,' wasn't it? That sounded possible as well. But, we'd never know the truth.
Even with Naib trying his best to protect his lover, he was no match for Joseph's desire to kill [Y/N]. [Y/N] got flown back to the manor after kiting for about sixty seconds, with her last words being 'Focus on decoding!'. At least, she managed to let her teammates decode two ciphers while she was being hunted.
Now, [Y/N] only had to wait for her teammates to come back with the match result. It was painful. With no working clocks in the manor, she couldn't know for sure how long the match had been going on. Would Naib be okay? Would there be someone to help him? Would he be able to stay calm?
[Y/N] couldn't even feel the pain from her wounds with all the thoughts running through her head. Her fingers drummed on her thigh nonstop while sitting on the stairs, waiting for her teammates' return. Thinking about what might happen to Naib was heart-wrenching for her.
Naib Subedar was always the most injured one coming back from a match. He always wanted to protect anyone he could. Bodyblocking for them, distracting the Hunter from them, anything. It was to cover for his weakness in decoding, he said. But still-
"Ms. Emily!"
[Y/N] flinched when she heard the Forward's voice from the front door. She looked over and saw William entering the manor together with Norton. As she ran down the stairs, [Y/N] noticed her lover laying unconscious in William's arms. Her heart dropped when she saw blood all over him, she couldn't even speak.
