Wanda had made me pass out for the flight home, giving me a chance to rest. At least, that's what she told me. I had my suspicions she made me sleep so I didn't have to deal with the Avengers and their comments and stares. It was given that they knew about my powers. It would impossible for them not to. At least with her using her powers, I was blocked off from my nightmares for the time being.
I don't know how I made it into my room, but when my eyes opened I was there. I came to the conclusion she used her powers and sat up a bit, and immediately went back down at the killer headache I had. Honestly, it had been so long since I had been the Soldier I forgot about the 'hangover' I got from it.
Speaking was also off the table, so I opted to just lay in bed until Wanda or someone came to check in on me. That wasn't long. There was a light knock on the door before it started to open, and in came Wanda with Sam trailing behind her.
"Oh good, your awake," Wanda said. She let out a sigh and smiled slightly. It was the kind that someone gave you after you just learned your parents died and you had fallen into depression. Basically, it was a smile I didn't want right now. "You slept for quite a while. For you it's tomorrow. I guess that's a good way to say it? But it's a new day."
I tried to speak but Sam beat me to it. "We need to take you to Doctor Banner's lab to make sure you're alright. It's routine to get checked out after every battle, in case adrenaline blocked out pain from something." I let out a noise of agreement and went to stand up.
Bad idea. I was lightheaded and my knees fell out from under me. "Oh no," Wanda said surprised. At about the same time, Sam let out a, "Going down!" Sam was the one who caught me before I could land fully on the ground.
"I might be a bit lightheaded," I said. Wanda shook her head with a 'duh' expression and Sam laughed. "On that note, walking might be a bit difficult."
"I gotcha," Sam said, and picked me up with my legs over on arm and my back supported in the other. We walked out of my room into the brightly lit hallway. This further angered my head, so I buried it into Sam's chest and held my arm over my face. This was also helpful in avoiding people on the way to Bruce.
At least three people stopped us in the hallway: Captain Rogers, who wanted to know what the hell we were doing, when Sam just said he and Wanda were taking me to the medical bay for a post-mission look over.
Nat. She asked why Sam was carrying me, and more about if I was okay. Wanda explained how I was lightheaded and had a really tough time walking. When Nat asked about why my head was hidden, I kind of tried to explain that the bright lights were, well, bright. However, it all came out muffled and Sam had to translate for me.
Our final stopper was Mr. Stark. I braced myself for the worst of it, but he merely asked Wanda how I was doing. She gave the same spiel, and Mr. Stark pulled her off to the side and they talked in hushed tones for a bit. He finally walked away and we made it to the medical lab.
"Ah you're awake!" Bruce said. I went to lift my head, but the lights were still very bright. Wanda said something about the lights, and Bruce had then dimmed. Now I was able to lift my head up and look around the room. There were other doctors milling about, mostly just fixated on their own projects. A couple were setting up a space for me. Bruce was setting something else up and then walked back over. "Sam, could you put her down on that chair?"
Sam nodded, walked to the chair, and gently put me down in it. I smiled at him and mumbled a small 'thanks'. A couple doctors came over to me, and soon I was surrounded by people trying to stick things in my arm.
Flashes ripped through my head. White masks. Bloody hands. One arm. My energy pulsed and Wanda must've felt it. "Guys, give her some space." She pushed doctors aside and made then stay back, and only one by one were they allowed to approach me and do what they needed to do. I thanked Wanda and she shrugged it off. "It was easy to tell you were stressed. They should've realized; I only helped them realize."
