Still Thursday, March 6th, 1987

I'm gonna die. I'm gonna die. I've just assumed it. What do I say? What can I say? My mother and my brother are still waiting for an answer. I try my best to calm down and don't raise suspicions. First of all, let's see what they know

-Why do you ask me? I don't remember seeing a broken mirror yesterday. Did something happened?
-Mr Norvell, your headteacher, said that the janitor cleaned that bathroom after classes, you guys stayed for the rehearsals. And this morning the mirror was found, broken. I think it's necessary to ask you if you are aware of this
-A mirror broken... maybe I heard something, today we had to focuse on the play and I didn't pay attention to anything else... But maybe there were more people in the school while we practiced in the events room
-That's why your parent's friends are being noticed about this too- and here is where I wanted the conversation to go. If we're all being interrogated, what will they say? What could Mike say?
-Oh, that's fine... in any case, I'm not involved in that incident. And I hope neither the rest. I can't think about a moment when that could happen...
-Sweetheart, are you being honest?
-Of course I am mum! Why wouldn't I?
-Seriously do I have to answer that question?- she tilts her head, and I know what she means
-Is not their fault mum. And you should feel glad I'm finally living a bit
-And I am Will! Believe me. But you have to be careful Just, see what happened
-...
-We want good for you, don't forget that, alright?
-Sure...
-Great- she stands up, and give me a kiss on my head- go to your room and do homework
-Okay. See you at dinner- and I go to my bedroom, I better distract myself a bit. So I take Chemistry book out, and start doing some exercises. As I finish, I read the lesson of Maths we had for today, and at the end, grab my Spanish dictionary and do the review of The Celestine. I'm in the middle of it when Jonathan knocks my door
-Hey...
-Hey there, you have a call. Is Jane, asking for Spanish homework- sure is that. I stand up, grab the phone, and low my voice as much as I can
-El?
-Will! Tell me you know what is this all about. My father is going to kill me
-What did you tell him?
-That I had no idea of what he was talking about, and I still don't have! Do you know something?
-I know everything... it was Mike
-Oh no... not again...
-Again?
-There was a time when he broke a locker, a telephone... and a blackboard
-How the hell did he do that?
-Not the point. It was a panick attack? It's been ages since the last one. What was wrong with him?
-He felt really nervous about the theater thing
-Oooh.. understandable.
-He almost took down the stall too, but I stopped him. Shit I knew we forgot something
-What do you mean?
-We left the crime scene, and did the sound test, then we had to go back to the bathroom and fix.... everything. But we didn't. We forgot. It was darkening and I had to get home and-
-I get it! I get it... what are we going to do... mr Norvell is going to talk to all of us tomorrow
-WhAt? I wasn't aware of that!
-Well now you are. What are we going to do? I spoke with Max before calling you, she just played dumb and convinced her mother she had no idea of anything.
-I did that too, just to make sure of what they knew. The headteacher knows it was one of us
-Max called Lucas, they must be talking now. I'm going to call Dustin, you better call Mike
I-I don't have his number.
-Isn't your brother dating his sister? They still live in the same house, correct?
-Good point. Update me if you get anything else
-Sure, talk to you later
-Bye
-Bye!- I hang up, and go to Jonathan's bedroom, he's there working on... something I don't care right now
-Jonathan! Is an emergency. Do you uh, have the Wheeler's home number?
-Yes... do you want to call Mike?
-Homework stuff, yeah. I want to make sure I didn't say anything wrong to El
-Is in the fridge, get it
-Thanks!
-No prob bro
-Don't do that ever again
-Yeah okay- Running to the kitchen, I take a look at all the notes that are in the fridge, and find the right one. Back to my room. I mark all the numbers, and it starts ringing
-Hello?- shit. Not Mike
-Hi! Uh. Are you Nancy?
-Yeah, are you Will?
-Yes, yes I am
-Oh, is your brother okay?
-Absolutely. I called, willing to talk with Mike
-He's talking with our parents. Something of school I think
-Please tell him is an emergency. A school emergency too. It's for... literature exam
-Alright? Hold on
-Sure! Thank you
-MIIIIKE! WILL BYERS ON THE PHONE!- did she have to shout next to the phone? Did she? Anyways, is not a complete minute what it takes for the boy to pick it up
-Will! How awesome you called. Dude I'm in trouble. My parents know about-
-Shhh! They know nothing. And you aren't in trouble... yet
-What are you saying?
-Mr Norvell called all of our parents. He knows about the mirror, but he doesn't know who broke it. So if your parents ask, when you entered in the bathroom, you drank some water, and you cut your hand with a glass of the mirror, already broken. Okay? That will explain your bandage
-Okay... okay. Good alibi. What did you tell your mother?
-That I don't remember it well because this morning we were really focused on the screenplay. So if anyone places me with you, I just "didn't remember"
-Okay. What about the rest?
-Max and Jane fooled their parents saying they didn't know what the headteacher was talking about. Which makes sense, because this happened in the boys bathroom, it's normal if they didn't know
-Lucas and Dustin?
-The girls are talking with them. But the problem is not over
-I know, the school want us to talk with Norvell. We're screwed...
-Not really. We just have to meet tomorrow before classes, and think of a story we can all tell
-Someone has to pay the price... why I don't just confess?
-Because you've already destroyed half of the school facilities. You don't need to increase your record
-Who told you- Jane
-Mike, focus. What are you going to tell your parents when you hang up the phone?
-That I did go to the bathroom, but it was already broken. And I didn't say anything because it was curfew and I thought the janitor would fix it
-Great. I'm going to call Jane. Tomorrow at 7 AM in the same bench we had lunch today
-Got that
-Good luck there
-Thanks, good luck to you too
-Bye
-See you!- and it's over. I leave the phone next to me, just in case Jane calls again, and think... what can we say that can sound believable? The girls are not a problem. But Dustin, Lucas, Mike and I have a lot to lose...mostly Mike. And who is going to take the rap? Shit... this is complicated. I can't wait no more, and mark El's number on the phone
-Hey! I was just going to call you. What did Mike tell you?
-I called at time. He has a good alibi. What about Dustin?
-He's freaking out because Mike didn't tell us. Typical Dustin
-Okay. Jane I think we must meet before classes. To have one story in common. They will suspect if suddenly we don't know anything about it
-Where and when?
-7 o'clock in the campus
-Cool. I'll inform the rest.
-Thanks. See you then
-Enjoy the rest of your evening
-I was working with Spanish
-Great! I won't interrupt you more, then. Bye!
-Evening!- tomorrow will be a pretty interesting day...
