Something awoke me. A long lasting scream of a woman in pain. It came from a forest to the left of me. I grabbed my rifle and threw on my uniform tunic. I ran towards the forest and the woman screamed again. Then I heard multiple gunshots. There was a dirt road that went into the forest, I followed that in until I saw a young woman get pushed to the ground. I looked at her and ran over to help her up, not seeing anyone else in view. She was scared when she saw me but I tried to tell her that I was trying to help her. I grabbed her hand and tried to pull her up. I then felt something strike the side of my skull. I froze. I looked up and saw a tall blond haired and blued eyed German soldier with a P38 stuck to the side of my head. He had his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His cheek bones bulged out of his face, making him to tough. The veins in his arms popped out of his skin. I looked down at his hands and he was holding a knife with blood dripping off of it. I wanted to fight with this man but he would kill me right when I lay hands on him. I took my eyes off of the soldier and looked behind him. There was a dead young woman, about my age, laying on the ground face first.

"Leave, boy." he said in a low tone.

"No." I said back.

He jabbed the pistol harder into my skull. I quickly thought about how to take him down before there would be a bullet lodged into my brain. I was afraid we would not even let me get up! I thought of a plan and soon took it into action.

"Ok, I'll get up and leave......"

He slowly backed the pistol from my head and watched me get up. I made a quick motion to grab my rifle. I threw the stock of the rifle into his jaw and he flew to the ground. A shot was fired but it flew up into the air. I looked back at the woman and she was crying hard. She made a move to turn around and run away into the forest. The soldier was trying to reach for his pistol but I stepped on his wrist. Then I got down to his stomach. I quickly put my hands around his lean neck. I squeezed it has hard as I could. His face turned a bright red and the veins popped out in his forehead. He tried reaching for me but his wrists were still below my boots. I felt the muscles in his body relax, his eyes stopped moving side to side, and his chest stopped moving up and down.

I stared at the dead man. I thought of what I had done. I looked down at my hands and looked back a him, staying motionless on the ground with his dead eyes creepily looking at me. I could not believe of what I had done to a man that was stronger and was more lean than me. I killed him with only my bare hands, no shooting or stabbing. I had saved that women's life from either being killed or being raped.

I bent down to the soldier and searched his pockets. I only found cigarettes and photos. I placed those of the top of his chest. I planned to hide his body so no one could see him. I pulled the man's arms and pulled him over to a deep ditch that was covered in leaves from last autumn. I threw his body in there and covered him in sticks, dirt, and leaves. He soon became invisible to my eye. I walked back to the dirt road and saw the young girl that had been killed. She had a knife wound to her lower stomach. The blood stained her beautiful white dress. I went on my knees and looked at her. Her curly strawberry hair blew in the summer's breeze. I turned her head over to me and I saw she had engaging blue eyes. Her face was covered in freckles. I wanted to bury her somehow but her mother had ran away. I wanted to carry her back the way her mother ran.

I picked the girl up and held her in my arms and carried her the way the woman ran. I had no idea how deep this forest was or if I was even staying the right way. I kept going, trying to find her mother and home.
