"Sorry, I'm sitting with my friend Malia. Okay bye- Oh, hi, Lu- no sorry I can't- Hello, Jake! Yeah I had a good- Actually I-" the tall girl slammed the compartment door closed and breathed a sigh of relief. Malia looked up at her from her seat as she straightened out her braids. Dia Calippo turned to her best friend and her mouth spread into a breath-taking grin. "Ciao, Mals." Malia met eyes with her best friend and the same name as always floated into her head: 'Naomi Calippo' - Dia's mother.
"Finally free of the fans?" Malia drawled and Dia winked as she flopped down on the seat, kicking her long legs to rest ahead of her. Malia had met her best friend Dia on the train to Hogwarts when she was eleven years old and the pair had been inseparable ever since. It was strange because the girls were polar opposites but they fit together perfectly. Dia Calippo was beautifully tall with smooth, chocolate brown skin and silky, black hair. She attracted the attention of every single person she came across and she relished in it. She would flirt with everyone she passed without fail and people would approach her just to see her smile. She was the kind of person that everyone fell in love with because she was so confident and outgoing. She was unbelievably popular but she spent all of her time with her best friends, which confused a lot of people. Malia on the other hand kept to herself. She didn't really go out of her way to greet or talk to people and tended to enjoy sticking to communicating with the people she knew. People at school liked her but they'd be lying if they said they weren't slightly intimidated by her. She was very calm. She very rarely got excited and seemed to soothe everyone that was around her. She diffused Dia's outgoing personality whilst Dia made sure Malia smiled enough. They were sweet and salty. Sugar and spice. And they were perfect for each other.
"Where's James?" Dia flicked her hair over her shoulder and looked at Malia who was staring out of the window,
"With the boys." she responded. "We'll go and see them as soon as Juno and Bailey get here." Juno Thrifter and Bailey Masons were the second half of Malia's quartet. Juno was a Ravenclaw like Malia and Dia and he was the stereotype. He was unequivocally smart. His friends referred to him as the human encyclopedia since he knew just about everything. He was slightly awkward at first but was secretly the sarcasm and sass of the group. He was bullied terribly in his first few years of school but after he grew a few inches, cut his hair and bought fashionable glasses, he was actually rather sought after.
Bailey Masons was in Hufflepuff but she spent most of her time at Ravenclaw Tower. She was the good girl. She was incredibly shy but equally sweet and she was terribly afraid of authority figures. Dia and Malia thought it their responsibility to look after her and they had helped her come out of her shell lightly so she didn't blush every time she engaged in normal human contact.
Since James and Malia were so close, it was only natural that their two friend groups often congregate. Dia met her equal in the form of Sirius Black and Juno and Bailey felt rather comfortable in the presence of Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. Despite the self-proclaimed 'Marauders' being a year older than Malia and her friends, they hung out rather often and the four boys were very protective over the group. Especially James and Sirius with Malia - they considered her their little sister and she found it irritating to say the least.
