Monster AU

Janus- Snake monster (has scales on the left side of his face (and other places), a forked tongue, venom, and pointed ears. Can turn into a large golden and yellow snake at will)
Remus- Octopus monster (has great intelligence and problem solving skills, four extra octopus arms that come out of his back, sharp teeth, pointed ears. Can turn into an octopus sporadically)
Virgil- Spider monster (has two extra sets of eyes, four spider arms that come out of his back, can walk on walls and ceilings, venomous bite once older, fangs, and pointed ears. Can turn into a cute, fuzzy tarantula if scared)
Roman- Monster hunter
Patton- Monster hunter
Logan- Monster researcher
Joan- Monster sympathizer
Talyn- Monster sympathizer
Thomas- Friends with the Monster hunters

Ships- none, but could have royality, loceit or whatever Thomas and Janus' ship is

Trigger Warnings: unsympathetic Patton and Roman, swearing, blood, violence, sympathetic Janus, Remus, and Virgil

Plot- Janus is raising his two children (Virgil and Remus) deep in the woods away from everyone to protect them from the dangerous humans. One day Virgil gets out and gets lost in the woods, being found by a kind man named Thomas. Thomas is friends with the monster hunters (Lights), but never actually killed one himself. He had mixed feelings about them, but after finding Virgil he just couldn't let the Lights hurt this innocent child, monster or not. The story consists of Janus panicky trying to find his missing child while protecting Remus, the Lights trying to find this monster family and destroy them, and a Thomas just trying to help Virgil and return him to the safety of his home and family.
Joan and Talyn would be secret monster sympathizers and Thomas would just be calling one of them up every time something strange happens. Joan and Talyn end up just giving Thomas a book about how to raise spider children and they both come over to help out Thomas (both in caring for Virgil and searching for his family). They love Virgil and Virgil loves them which just furthers Thomas' believe that not all monsters need to die or are evil. After all, the one currently playing in his living room with his two best friends doesn't seem so bad.
The Lights then show up one day and demand to be let inside to which Thomas grabs Virgil and makes a run for it, somehow getting caught and Virgil being taken away from him. The spider boy is almost lost when a massive golden and yellow snake shows up and frightens the hunters away, transforming back into his casual form and gripping Virgil like no tomorrow. The snake man helps Thomas up and thanks him profusely, introducing himself as Janus and Virgil's adoptive father and along with introducing Remus who came along for the trip. Thomas is happy to help and offers to let them spend the night. Janus and Thomas become good friends from there. Then Logan shows up one day claiming that the others are coming for them and they must abandon the place. They only listen to him because Virgil seems to trust him (and if the spider boy with massive amounts of anxiety trust him then you should too). They run back to the forest where Logan explains that he didn't mean to hurt any of them. He just found them fascinating and wanted to learn more. Patton and Roman manipulated him into thinking he was doing good as a monster hunter. He only realized how wrong he was after watching Janus defend and protect his son and a human from harm.
