"How long has this been going on?" Virgil asked. I was sitting on the kitchen counter and he was leaning against the hob, wings unfurled, facing me. I thought about it for a few seconds before answering.

"About 2 years." Virgil laughed slightly and shook his head. "What about you?"

"Since I was 16. I was done with people shit and I chose to make them like me rather than hate me even more." He said, glaring at me.

"But that doesn't work." I said. Virgil cocked his head to the side. "It's not you they love. They love Anxiety, not Virgil Summers."

"So?"

"If they knew who you were, most of the people who hated you in the first place would go back to hating you."

"And that, dear Roman," Virgil said icily, "is exactly why I wear a mask. It's better to be loved when no one knows who you are than hated for who you really are."

My phone buzzed. I looked up at Virgil apologetically and answered.

"Hello?"

"PRINCEY, WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?!" Janus yelled down the line. "REMUS IS HAVING A CRISIS!"

"Well maybe he shouldn't have asked me to fight Anxiety again because I've got a fucking broken ankle now."

"WE'RE COMING TO GET YOU! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?"

"You don't need to know. I'm fine. Now leave me alone and keep Duke away from the chainsaws." I said firmly before hanging up and looking back at Virgil.

"Chainsaws? Plural?"

"Yeah... Duke gets a kick out of collecting highly dangerous weapons." Virgil shook his head and almost smiled but the he caught himself.

"Where d'you suppose they'll go?" He asked

"What?"

"Where are they going to go to find you?"

"Most likely? They're probably coming here."

"Right, okay. You stay there and don't move. I'm gonna bring your partners to justice once and for all and if you try and stop me-"

"By all means, kill them. I really couldn't care less." Virgil looked at me, surprised. I shrugged. "They've used me to get out of tricky situations more than once."

"Um, okay. I wasn't going to actually kill them just send them to prison?" I shook my head.

"That won't work." I said. "While they might be homicidal maniacs, my brother and Janus are-oh shit. Well, they definitely aren't going to allow me back now." I said, laughing slightly. Virgil rolled his eyes at me and left the kitchen. I thought back to about a week ago when I had singed his wing. It still looked burnt even now.  That's when I realised something.

My brother and Janus were going to kill Virgil.
