Rina
I ran over to Sydney as Luke went down the hallway going after Callie. My heart was pounding harder than it ever pounded before. "Sydney?" I whispered. She looked at me, her eyes fading to blue. I felt a tear slip down my cheek. Sandra ran over to Sydney and threw her arms around her.
"Why are you so stupid?" Sandra said as she slapped Sydney in the face. Sydney stayed silent as she rubbed her cheek. "Sydney?"
Sydney stood up then put a glove-less hand against the wall making it turn into stone. Sydney was getting better at using her powers, though, so the rock didn't spread, but just stayed at a contained circle underneath her hand. Sydney took a deep breath and took a step forward.
"Sydney?" Nea tried as she walked over to Sydney. Sydney put a hand up to Nea like a stop sign. Nea took a step back. Sydney took another step forward as she walked over to the door frame and ran.
"Sydney!" We yelled. We can't lose Callie and Sydney. We then heard a grunt from down the hall.
We saw a shadow of a frozen figure. We all ran down the hallway to find Sydney with tears streaming down her face as she had a hand on a woman that was now stone. I then realized who it was.
"Ms. Harriet..." My voice choked as I said the name. Why would Sydney...
"She was working for him," Sydney whispered. Her voice was a little hoarse from the lack of use. She took her hand off Ms. Harriet— now a statue— and shoved past us down the hallway. Wait...
"Sydney... what's—"
Sydney whipped her head back and looked at me. She started laughing... sarcastically. "Don't even start with the 'what's wrong' conversation, because I have had the most awful, mind numbing..." She took a deep breath as tears fell down her face and said, "Painful day, ever! So, don't ask me what's wrong." Sydney took off running down the hallway.
I stood there blank faced... I wasn't going to ask what was wrong. I never even opened my mouth. I looked behind me and saw Callie. Her shirt was burned, and she was sitting on her knees on the floor. "Callie?" I whispered as I dropped down beside her. Nea and Sandra were looking back and forth at Callie and at the end of the hallway where Sydney went. Sandra ran down the hallway and Nea stayed here with me and Callie.
Callie looked at me and smiled. She whispered, "I did it."
"Did what?" I asked as Nea sat down rubbing her temples. It's been a long day.
"Left him in the void," Callie said as she laid down on the floor.
"The... void? What void?" I asked.
Callie's smile grew. She said, "You know how we go into our necklaces?" I nodded, so she then continued speaking, "Well... when I was teleporting... I teleported farther than ever. I teleported to my house from outside of this building. Luke tackled me, so he teleported with me. But... because I teleported so far, I was in a void for a little while. You know, the blank space that helps me get from destination from destination?" She lost me. "Anyway, I left him in the void. He's trapped until I get him out."
I blinked and whispered, "Callie... you're a genius!"
"I know," She said smirking.
"When did you get so confident?" Nea asked Callie. Callie shrugged and sat up.
"We should go after Sydney," Callie said pulling on her blond hair.
I nodded. We were going to teleport, but Callie barely has energy, also we don't know how this "void" thing works. So we started walking down the hallway.
Sandra
"Sydney," I said as I walked into Sydney's room, she was sitting on her bed looking out her window. She was also massaging her head. Sydney looked at me and smirked, but I knew this wasn't her normal smirk. She was faking. She then looked back at the window.
"Sydney—"
"Stop. Just stop," Sydney whispered. She shook her head back and forth and covered her ears. I walked over to her and sat next to her on her bed. I placed my hand on her shoulder. She jerked away and got off the bed. She placed her hands out in front of her like a weapon.
"Sydney... I'm not gonna hurt you," I said as I gestured for Sydney to come over.
She whispered, "He pinned me down by the shoulders... he damaged me... I'm un-fixable... shattered." Sydney then put her back to the wall and slid down it and put her head in her hands.
I felt a tear fall down my cheek. What have they done to my sister? My funny, brave, sarcastic, sister? "He's gone, Sydney. I'm never gonna let him hurt you. Never again."
Sydney looked at me and smiled. It was still fake. She ran over to me and collapsed on the floor crying into my lap. "I'm always brave... I'm always making a joke to mask my fear... but I can't right now. I just can't. It hurts Sandra. Make it stop," She said as she cried harder.
"You're right," I said. "You may be a few seconds younger... but you will forever be stronger than me." Sydney looked up at me and then put her head back down on my lap. "Remember when we went inside that haunted house... I screamed so loud... but you laughed at the people who were scaring us. You also hid behind one if the curtains on the inside and scared them back. And then you told them 'No matter the monster... I'm always gonna come back and—"
"Scare it back twice as much as it scared me... and you wanna know why I said twice as much? Because it failed to scare me in the first place'." Sydney whispered remembering the memory. She then looked up at me and smiled.
A real smile this time.
"We are gonna take him down," Sydney whispered as she stood up. She wiped the tears off of her face. She rubbed her head again.
"What hurts?" I asked as I stood up also.
"Nothing... a little bit of scars... the ones that physically hurt will go away... mentally, probably not."
"Wait..." I whispered.
"What?" Sydney asked as she started jumping up and down. She was definitely getting her energy back.
"They wiped our parent's memory... of everything that happened... do you want that?" I asked.
Sydney inhaled sharply. She thought about it for a second, then shook her head. "Scars are what make us who we are... they're a sign survival. A sign of fighting through the monsters. And that's exactly what I did." She paused and said, "Now... let's scare that monster, so that he pees his pants!"
